By the time Seraphina arrived at the hospital, it was already evening.

Traffic had been awful, and she was in such a rush that she nearly tripped on the steps leading up to the entrance, losing her balance and slamming her elbow hard against the doorframe.

Ignoring the pain, she hurried inside.

An hour ago, Dominic had called to tell her, "Lily has acute gastroenteritis. She's at Central Hospital."

Even though her daughter had repeatedly broken her heart, the bond of carrying her for nine months and raising her day and night for five years made it impossible for Seraphina to simply walk away.

Having taken care of Lily for years, she knew her daughter's condition better than anyone. So, the moment she hung up, she immediately started making a soothing bowl of soup, hoping to bring it to Lily just in time for dinner.

She rushed to the room, grabbing the door handle.

Through the crack in the door, she could see Lily lying in the hospital bed, wearing a patient's gown. Her small face was pale, an IV drip was still attached to her hand, and she looked noticeably thinner.

Seraphina's heart twisted. Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard voices from inside.

"Mom, I don't want to eat this. It tastes gross."

Her daughter's voice was thick with tears, soft and pleading.

Seraphina instantly froze in the doorway.

Who was she calling Mom?

She leaned in to look closer and saw Lauren sitting by the bed. Lauren held a bowl in one hand and a spoon in the other, blowing gently on the food before offering it to Lily.

"Be a good girl, Lily. You're sick, so you need to eat something mild. Once you're all better, I'll take you out for whatever you want."

Lauren's voice was incredibly gentle. Anyone watching would assume they were a real mother and daughter.

"Okay, I'll listen to you, Mom."

Lily swallowed the spoonful of food, chewing with obvious difficulty, yet still forcing a wide smile. "It's so yummy."
