Seraphina looked up at him.

"I don't accept this. I will only accept a fifty-fifty split of the assets."

Dominic scoffed, his tone dripping with apathy.

"It is not up to you to refuse."

He took two steps forward, staring down at her with a domineering gaze.

"Seraphina, I have countless ways to force you to accept."

Winifred couldn't hold back any longer and jumped to her feet.

"You still expect half the assets? You're dreaming!"

"You're a penniless nobody from a small town. Marrying into the Lockwood family was the greatest blessing of your miserable life. A million dollars is already too much for you, so don't be ungrateful."

Seraphina stared at her, her hands curling into fists at her sides.

At that moment, old Mrs. Lockwood slammed her hand hard against the armrest of the sofa.

"Enough!"

Winifred jumped, shrinking back instantly.

The old lady took a deep, shaky breath.

"If they really are divorcing, she absolutely deserves half the assets."

She looked up, fixing Winifred with a piercing stare.

"Have you forgotten? When you suddenly fell ill, she was the one who found you, performed first aid, and carried you down the stairs on her back. The doctors said if she had been ten minutes later, you would be dead."

Winifred opened her mouth, a flicker of guilt flashing across her face, but she quickly stiffened her neck.

"That was just dumb luck! Besides, even without her, the doctors would have saved me. They probably would have done a better job!"

Seraphina couldn't help but let out a soft laugh.

Three years ago, Winifred had suffered a sudden heart attack in the middle of the night. Seraphina had woken up to get water for Lily and stumbled upon the emergency.

No one else had been home.

Relying on her own knowledge, she had administered first aid. Once Winifred's condition stabilized slightly, Seraphina had carried her heavy mother-in-law all the way down from the third floor and rushed her to the hospital at top speed, saving her life.

And after all that, she was dismissed as having 'dumb luck.'

The old lady was so angry her hands were shaking.
