Seraphina looked up and saw old Mrs. Lockwood emerging from the staircase.
The elderly woman's face was livid. Her sharp gaze swept over Winifred and Yvette, her tone laced with authority.
"A mother-in-law with no grace, and a sister-in-law with no manners. All you do all day is bully your daughter-in-law. Aren't you afraid of becoming a laughingstock?"
Winifred opened her mouth to argue, but the old woman silenced her with a single glare.
Old Mrs. Lockwood scoffed and turned to Dominic.
"Your own wife is being bullied, and you just sit there watching? You don't have a single word to say in her defense?"
Dominic's hand, gripping his phone, paused, his expression darkening.
Hearing the words 'your wife,' Seraphina felt a sharp sting in her chest.
There was a time when hearing someone call them husband and wife would fill her with secret joy.
But now, it only sounded grating.
Winifred muttered defensively, "Mom, Dominic is my son. Of course he should take my side. There's no reason for him to help an outsider."
The old woman whipped her head around.
"Outsider? She married Dominic. She and Dominic are one entity. Bullying his wife is the exact same thing as bullying him!"
"When his wife is humiliated, he is humiliated! You married into this family too. How dare you call her an outsider?"
Winifred choked on her words, snapping her mouth shut in sheer embarrassment.
Seraphina stood up and walked over to support the old woman.
"Grandma, please don't be angry."
The old lady patted her hand and let out a heavy sigh.
Seraphina guided her to a seat and crouched beside her, looking up.
"Grandma, I have something to tell you," Seraphina said, her voice steady.
"What is it?"
Seraphina glanced at Dominic.
He was sitting on the sofa, staring down at his phone, completely unfazed by the drama unfolding in the room.
Seraphina looked back at the older woman and took a deep breath.
"Grandma, I'm divorcing Dominic."
The old lady swayed, clutching the armrest of the sofa.
"What did you say?"
