"Dominic, I'm back in the country."
On the other side of town.
Seraphina stared at her darkened phone screen, her fingers growing cold.
Dominic's parting words—"do you really think you deserve that?"—felt like a needle piercing straight through her heart.
She suddenly found the whole situation laughable.
Did she deserve it?
For six years, she had woken up early and stayed up late, dedicating her life to serving his family. And in the end, all she got was a callous, "Do you deserve it?"
Seraphina's lips twitched upward, but the smile never reached her eyes.
Chelsea leaned over, her brow furrowed in concern.
"What did he say this time?"
Seraphina set her phone down. "He accused me of playing hard to get and said I don't deserve half the assets."
Chelsea slammed her hand on the table.
"Is he out of his mind?"
Seraphina sighed, picking up her glass to take a sip of water.
The warm liquid slid down her throat, suppressing the bitter wave of despair rising in her chest.
Chelsea reached out and grabbed her hand.
"Seraphina, don't let it get to you." Chelsea's voice softened. "He's not worth a single one of your tears."
Seraphina blinked. Her eyes stung fiercely, but she forced the tears back down.
"I'm not crying. I just feel like... it was all so pointless."
Six years.
She had turned her entire life into a pathetic joke.
Chelsea tightened her grip.
"Come on, let's head to my place to hang out. The renovations on my new house are finally done. I keep telling you to come see it, but you never have."
Seraphina looked up at her.
Chelsea offered a bright, cheering smile. "Let's go. We'll head over right now. You can crash at my place tonight, and I'll have my housekeeper make you some dessert."
The corners of Seraphina's lips curved upward.
