Gideon maintained his brisk pace, his entourage cutting swiftly through the corridor.
As he passed Seraphina's suite, his footsteps faltered for a fraction of a second. He turned his head ever so slightly, his gaze drifting through the glass partition to peer inside.
Bathed in the warm glow of the room's lighting, Seraphina picked up a piece of ribs and took a bite, an unconscious, soft smile curling the corners of her lips.
Gideon's eyes lingered on that delicate curve for the briefest of moments before he looked away.
His face betrayed no emotion as he resumed walking, his strides as steady and aloof as ever.
Meanwhile, Dominic led Lily back into their home, finding the house as agonizingly silent as before.
The nanny hurried over to take Dominic's coat, whispering cautiously, "Welcome home, sir. Dinner is already prepared..."
Dominic didn't answer. His eyes unconsciously scanned every corner of the room, finding absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.
His expression darkened significantly.
He had intentionally come home early, yet Seraphina was still throwing this absurd tantrum. She was taking this way too far.
Sensing who he was looking for, the nanny spoke up softly. "Mrs. Lockwood hasn't returned yet."
Dominic gave a curt grunt, pulling Lily along as he walked straight into the dining room.
Several dishes were set on the table, still steaming, but they looked entirely unappetizing.
Lily tugged at his hand, tilting her little face up at him. "Daddy, I want to eat Mom's cooking."
Dominic looked down at his daughter. His Adam's apple bobbed, but he said nothing. He merely loosened his tie, turned around, and led her into the living room, collapsing onto the sofa.
The sofa was soft, yet he felt entirely on edge.
"Go play by yourself for a bit," he said, his voice laced with exhaustion.
Lily nodded and scurried over to the rug with her toys.
Dominic grabbed his phone and dialed Seraphina's number.
It rang multiple times before she finally picked up.
