"Yes, so it's quite unfortunate we won't be moving forward," Mr. Fletcher stated.
Carter found the entire situation utterly absurd. "But she was just a regular employee here. Why would your firm terminate a massive deal just because she resigned?"
"Hah!" A dry laugh echoed through the receiver. "It seems you truly have absolutely no idea what she's actually worth."
Carter stared at the dead phone, completely unable to comprehend what the manager meant.
Jocelyn? What kind of hidden value did she have?
He immediately called her, demanding she come into the office.
Although she had no desire to go, she wanted to avoid any extra complications before they legally finalized their split, so she made the trip.
The second she walked through his door, he confronted her. "Prosperity Capital pulled their funding the moment you quit. Did you collude with them just to get back at me?"
"Get back at you?" she laughed softly. "I don't have the power to manipulate a massive firm like them. If they pulled out, it means they realized your project is a sinking ship!"
"Then explain why their manager told me directly that they terminated the deal because you left?" he demanded.
She paused. It made sense now—Prosperity Capital must have run a deep background check on her and uncovered her past achievements in military drone technology.
Now that she was gone and replaced with someone as incompetent as Jeannie, they obviously saw zero potential for return on investment.
"They probably just realized your sister has absolutely no idea what she's doing," she stated calmly.
Jeannie, who had been eavesdropping outside, burst through the door, glaring venomously at her. "What do you mean I have no idea what I'm doing?! I bet you've been doing dirty favors for those investors behind my brother's back!"
Her eyes flashed with malicious delight. "You definitely slept with them to get that initial funding, didn't you?!"
