The Return of Special Forces Queen novel Chapter 42

Back when Jocelyn was in the Special Forces, Harrell had been a member of her squad. The two had shared foxholes and gone through life-and-death situations together.

"Used to be?" Jocelyn paused. "He was discharged?"

"Yeah, he left the military not long after you got married. He went abroad for three years and only just got back," Lana said.

Jocelyn was genuinely surprised. Based on her understanding, the Denton family had expected him to build a long-term career in the military and climb the ranks.

"Let's get him out for drinks when you have time. We should all catch up," Lana suggested. "The guy's been holding a grudge for three years. Surely he's over it by now."

"Sure," Jocelyn smiled faintly, recalling the energetic young soldier who used to follow her around.

Thinking back, she had just signed the marriage license without telling anyone. It really hadn't been the right way to handle things.

Just then, Carter walked into the laundry room. Jocelyn frowned slightly and put her phone away.

Carter had heard her voice and followed it, but the moment he saw the bloody clothes soaking in the sink, he jolted. "What happened? Are you hurt?"

He looked at her with genuine worry, grabbing her hands as if to inspect her for injuries. "Where are you hurt? Did you go to the hospital?"

Jocelyn looked at the man in surprise. The expression on his face right now looked exactly like the man he was three years ago.

Back then, he had worried about her exactly like this.

It was because of that care—and her desire to fulfill her parents' dying wish—that she had ultimately chosen to marry him.

But after they got married, his care and concern had slowly vanished, completely replaced by an obsession with his childhood crush.

Perhaps for some men, the things they couldn't have were always the best, and the things they easily obtained were never cherished.
