He kept his head lowered, the distance between them practically non-existent.
Those beautiful eyes that were usually so dead and stagnant were now faintly rippling with something else. It looked almost like... craving.
Craving?
Jocelyn almost laughed out loud at the word that flashed through her mind.
What on earth was she thinking? No matter what, Edgar Barrett wasn't going to crave his bodyguard!
"There are plenty of people in this world who would never abandon you, Mr. Barrett. You aren't lacking me."
Ding!
The elevator reached the ground floor. As the doors slid open, Jocelyn quickly stepped out.
"You should still go to the hospital and get checked out, just to be safe. I'll head back first," she said, turning to leave.
A man like Edgar exuded a profound sense of danger. Her intuition screamed at her that it was best to stay far, far away from men like him.
Edgar stood in silence, watching her retreating figure. Suddenly, he murmured to the secretary beside him, "How do you think I can get Jocelyn?"
Wyatt was taken aback. As Edgar's private secretary, he knew better than anyone that his boss was a man with almost zero worldly desires.
After all, it was far too easy for Mr. Barrett to get anything he wanted. He rarely even had to reach out for things; they were simply presented to him on a silver platter.
But now, his boss... actually wanted to get Jocelyn?
"Well... looking at Ms. Quinn's background, she doesn't seem like someone easily swayed by money. She may have retired from the military, but she still has that deep-seated pride of a soldier in her bones," Wyatt answered carefully.
He had been the one to run the background check on her, so he was intimately familiar with her history.
