In her panic, her foot slipped out of the stirrup, leaving her completely unbalanced and frantic.

"Ah!" Yolande screamed. She had completely lost control of the galloping animal.

Seeing the massive black horse charging straight at them, the very people who had just been praising her riding skills scattered in terror.

Jocelyn quickly grabbed Lana and pulled her out of the horse's path. But out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Edgar standing completely still. Yolande and the uncontrollable stallion were bearing down on him.

If this kept up, he was going to be trampled!

Getting hit by a horse moving at that speed would leave a person half dead, if not worse!

Jocelyn surged toward him with an explosive burst of speed. Grabbing him, she tackled him to the ground, rolling them both out of the way.

Amidst the screams of the crowd, they narrowly avoided the pounding hooves.

Winston let out a massive sigh of relief. If Edgar had been hurt by their horse, the entire Sinclair family would be finished.

Jocelyn panted, the heavy weight pressing down on her a stark reminder of what had just happened.

"Edgar Barrett? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" she asked.

The man remained pinned against her, completely silent.

Had a hoof caught him when they rolled away? She worriedly tried to push herself up to check his injuries.

Suddenly, a strong force pressed down on her shoulder, stopping her.

Edgar’s cold, clear voice sounded right next to her ear. "Why did you save me?"

"No reason. Instinct," she said evenly.

Her military training had kicked in; she hadn't thought about it, just reacted naturally to protect someone in danger.

"Instinct?" He slowly propped himself up, looking down at her beneath him. In that moment, a faint ripple crossed his usually deadened eyes.

Reflected in his obsidian pupils was Jocelyn's delicate yet fiercely determined face.
