He said this partly to distance himself from Jocelyn. After all, back at the restaurant, she had pointed a steak knife at Edgar's neck, clearly offending him.
On the other hand, both Azure Dynamics and his own company were vying for the Barrett family's investment in the drone sector. As competitors, his subtle implication that Azure Dynamics was unreliable and full of lies was a calculated move to knock out a rival!
Jocelyn stared at Carter coldly. After three years of marriage and pouring her heart and soul into his company, all she got in return was being labeled an "ordinary employee."
"Is that so?" Edgar asked evenly, his expression unreadable.
Just then, Yolande chimed in. "Ms. Whitaker, you and Jocelyn are friends, and I know you want to leave a good impression on Mr. Barrett, but there's no need to make up wild lies about her background."
"What lies? When Jocelyn was developing drones, you were probably still playing with toy planes!" Lana shot back, annoyed.
"Then does she have any patents in drone technology? Or any completed projects to her name?" Yolande challenged.
Lana opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words. After all, Jocelyn's drone research had been conducted in the military. Bound by strict non-disclosure agreements, she simply couldn't talk about it publicly.
"So, nothing then?" Yolande raised an eyebrow. "If you're going to fake it, you should at least pick the right occasion!"
The people around them who were on good terms with the Sinclair family immediately joined in the mockery.
Lana was furious, but Jocelyn remained calm. "Whether it's fake or not, time will tell."
"Keep running your mouth. It'll bite you eventually," Yolande scoffed.
At that moment, a handler led out a magnificent, pitch-black stallion with four white hooves.
"Mr. Barrett, this is a gift from the Sinclair family. It's a bit spirited, but it's been professionally trained," Winston Sinclair said eagerly. "If you like, why not take it for a ride?"
But Edgar merely glanced at the horse absentmindedly, showing no intention of mounting it.
The atmosphere instantly grew awkward.
