Yolande's expression stiffened. She wanted to lash out, but she couldn't immediately come up with a reasonable explanation.
Humiliated and furious, Carter snapped, "Jocelyn, did you really have to put your friend up to this? Are you trying to make a fool of us in public?"
"I'm tearing into you because I want to! It has nothing to do with her!" Lana snapped back.
But Carter was convinced Jocelyn was trying to humiliate him on purpose. "What is it going to take to make your friend shut her mouth? Do you want me to compensate you? Fine, what do you want?"
Watching the exasperated man in front of her, Jocelyn felt it once again—his utter disregard for her, and his overwhelming concern for Yolande. How could she have been so incredibly foolish back then to think she could ever make him truly fall in love with her?
"I don't want your compensation. I just want to resign," she stated flatly.
"What?" Carter froze, and even Lyle looked genuinely shocked.
"I'll submit my formal resignation tomorrow and hand over all my current projects. From now on, Grayson Tech's affairs have nothing to do with me," Jocelyn continued.
Since they were getting a divorce anyway, she might as well sever every remaining tie with him. She wanted a completely clean break.
"Are you threatening me?" Carter frowned deeply. "Just because I didn't shield you during the shooting, you're using your job as leverage?"
"No, I'm setting a boundary," she replied sharply. "I'm quitting. How you run Grayson Tech isn't my problem anymore. And whatever is going on between you and Yolande is none of my business either."
Noticing the growing crowd of onlookers whispering, Carter rubbed his temples in frustration. "Fine. If you want to resign, go ahead. Use the time off to clear your head."
Without another word, Jocelyn grabbed Lana's arm and walked out of the station.
Inside, Lyle still looked incredulous. "No way. She's actually quitting? Does she really think she can find a decent job out there?"
"Let her quit. It won't be long before she comes crawling back on her own," Carter scoffed dismissively.
"I can't stand people who use their careers as bargaining chips. Throwing away her job over some petty drama—what a waste of her education at the National Defense University," Yolande said haughtily.
"Who cares if she went there? If she tries to get a job now, she'll probably end up sweeping floors!" Lyle sneered.
