"That's incredible, but why would someone like that come on a show like ours?"
"Who knows. Maybe she's just here to have fun for a few days."
When the mysterious socialite finally arrived on set, Sylvia was stunned to realize it was the same girl she had seen meeting Julian.
She exuded an effortless elegance, and despite having zero experience on camera, her self-introduction was flawless and completely devoid of stage fright.
"Hi everyone, my name is Sydney Brooks. This is my first time on a show, so I'm a bit nervous. Please bear with me if I make any mistakes."
Sydney looked sophisticated and intellectual, but she actually had a very bubbly personality and quickly warmed up the atmosphere on set.
Even Zoe Meade went out of her way to suck up to her. After all, a socialite who could just parachute into a hit reality show definitely had powerful connections, and being on her good side could only be beneficial.
But Sydney clearly had zero interest in Zoe. When Zoe bragged about the idol dramas she had starred in, Sydney simply smiled and said she hadn't really watched much television while living abroad.
After a few failed attempts, Zoe gave up. With her status as a star, she couldn't afford to act too subservient to a non-celebrity; her fans would think she looked pathetic, and it just wasn't worth it.
Sydney, however, immediately gravitated toward Sylvia, acting incredibly friendly and even volunteering to partner up with her for tasks. The two of them prepared ingredients together.
"I used to go camping by myself all the time. It's actually a lot of fun."
Sylvia looked up at her in surprise. "By yourself? Didn't you ever get lonely?"
Sydney smiled. "Being alone is freeing. You don't have to worry about anyone else's feelings; you just do whatever makes you happy."
It was obvious Sydney was a fiercely independent woman, which made sense given how many years she'd spent living abroad alone.
Sylvia could never do that.
Her childhood experiences left her with a desperate craving for warmth and comfort. She could tolerate loneliness for a little while, but she couldn't endure it forever.
In a way, she was terrified of being completely alone, which was why she always had to hug something when she slept. Her familiar pillow served that purpose—the comforting scent helped ground her.
Halfway through the shoot, the production crew pulled each cast member aside to hand out hidden tasks.
Sylvia's task was to feed a piece of fruit to every single person on set. It wasn't overly difficult, but the awkward part was that everyone would instantly know it was a challenge, making it painfully unnatural.
Everyone else received their hidden tasks too, and they all looked equally awkward.
Even Ethan, who usually isolated himself, looked unusually restless, constantly adjusting his hat.
Meanwhile, Zoe walked over to Sylvia under the guise of completing a task, offering to brew her a cup of hot tea.
Sylvia instantly figured out this must be Zoe's task and immediately proposed a trade, agreeing to help each other out.
Zoe agreed. "Sure, I love mangoes anyway."
But when Zoe handed over the tea, her hand 'slipped,' and the cup of scalding tea splashed directly onto Sylvia's hand. An agonizing, stinging heat instantly tore across Sylvia's skin, leaving her hand burning fiercely.
