You Had Me, You Lost Me, You'll Never Find Me novel Chapter 157

Reina's anxiety was beginning to resurface.

Connor shot her an incredulous look. "You already gave it to her, and now you're worrying about this?"

He continued smoothly, "If you don't say anything, who's going to suspect you? To her, you're practically her future daughter-in-law." He draped an arm around her. "Besides, I've helped you out so much. Are you really going to hesitate over one little favor? Let's not forget, your precious Ashton almost traced everything back to you."

At the mention of that, a cold sweat broke out across Reina's back.

Ashton had indeed been dangerously close to exposing her. If Connor hadn't run interference and made the trail die at his feet, she would have been ruined.

Connor wasn't having an easy time lately, either, thanks to his deranged mother.

She had acquired a hospital discharge certificate proving she was legally sane and was now mercilessly extorting Connor for money. If he didn't pay up, she threatened to go to the police and accuse him of attempted murder. The constant harassment was driving him insane.

And with Ashton's people watching him like hawks, he couldn't afford to make any drastic moves.

Reina buttoned her blouse. "I helped you this once, but I'm done. I won't have another chance anyway. My brother just landed me a lead role in a movie, so I have to join the production set."

"Look at you, a big star," Connor replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

After Reina left, Connor's phone buzzed with another call from his mother. A dark, vicious storm clouded his eyes.

When Sylvia woke up, the room was shrouded in darkness. Her body ached thoroughly from the ordeal.

The heavy curtains were drawn shut, making it impossible to tell if it was day or night.

From a short distance away, she heard Ashton's deep, apathetic voice murmuring into his phone.

"...How the hell should I know where she went?"

"If you can't keep track of your own fiancée, do you expect me to find her for you?"

"Watch your own woman. I have zero obligation to help you."

Sylvia lifted her head. Ashton was sitting on a sofa across the room, his long legs stretched out casually. A laptop glowed brightly on the table in front of him, casting a cool blue light over his sharp features. His tone was aggressively dismissive, and after two brief sentences, he hung up.
