Zoe immediately put on a frantic show for the cameras. "Oh my god, what do I do?! You're burned! I'm so sorry, I swear I didn't mean to!"
Sylvia shot her a look but didn't say a word, simply following the rushing production staff to rinse the burn.
The cold water provided instant relief. After running it under the tap for nearly ten minutes, she figured it was fine. The sharp pain had subsided, so she told the crew she was ready to resume filming.
But the second the water stopped, her skin flared up again, burning intensely. Sylvia gritted her teeth and didn't mention it.
When filming resumed, Zoe suddenly created a new problem, complaining that her throat was scratchy.
The production had no choice but to halt everything. Zoe kept whining about how uncomfortable she felt, claiming it was an allergic reaction. Terrified of a potential lawsuit if something genuinely went wrong, the crew rushed her to the hospital.
The remaining cast hurriedly wrapped up the rest of the episode. By the time it was finally over, all Sylvia wanted was to get to a doctor.
But her bad luck hadn't peaked yet. When she went to get into her assigned studio SUV, the driver discovered the tire was completely flat.
Sylvia drew in a sharp breath. When it rains, it pours. The pain in her hand was becoming absolutely unbearable.
It was a relentless, agonizing sting that felt like a hundred needles stabbing into her skin, and she had been enduring it for hours.
Because the camping site was in a remote area, getting a rideshare was practically impossible.
As she stood by the road, trying to figure out what to do, Sydney noticed her and walked over. "Do you need a ride?"
Sylvia hesitated for a second before asking, "I'm so sorry to bother you, but could you drop me off at Mercy Hospital?"
Seeing Sylvia's pained expression, Sydney didn't ask any questions. "Get in."
Sydney hopped directly into the front passenger seat. Sylvia didn't think twice and opened the rear door, only to freeze when she saw someone was already sitting there.
It was Ashton.
He was dressed in a crisp white shirt and tailored trousers, looking tall, broad-shouldered, and impeccably refined. He sat there with an icy, expressionless face. The faint purple bruise was still visible on his temple, and when his eyes locked onto hers, there wasn't a trace of warmth in them. He just looked cold.
Especially when he saw the immediate flash of regret on Sylvia's face the second she opened the door.
"Get in. It's not like I'm going to eat you."
"Never mind."
Sylvia started to shut the door, but a soft, mocking scoff came from inside the car.
Ever since their breakup, Sylvia's repeated ruthlessness had made it painfully clear that he meant absolutely nothing to her anymore.
He clung to his natural arrogance, forcing himself not to pay attention to her.
He would occasionally steal a glance, only to coldly look away.
But his years of knowing her intimately meant he instantly recognized her discomfort.
Ashton initially assumed his presence was making her miserable, which sent a bitter, agonizing ache radiating through his chest like a blunt knife.
So she hated him that much? Was that pretty boy Julian really that incredible?
But when he noticed Sylvia leaning back with her eyes closed, her brow pinched in pain as she cradled the back of one hand with the other, he realized something was wrong.
"What happened to your hand?" Ashton suddenly grabbed her wrist, his brows snapping together as he spoke in a low voice. "You're burned this badly, you idiot, and you didn't say anything?"
Sylvia yanked her hand back. "It's none of your business."
Ashton immediately ordered Gideon to pull over at the nearest pharmacy, got out himself, and bought burn ointment.
