“What are you crying for? Your man isn't dead yet.”
Sylvia Harlow hit him when she heard that, kicking out blindly.
Ashton Wyatt let her vent, only handing her phone back when her energy finally gave out.
“I'm giving you three days. Move out of that place and cut ties with Julian Sterling. Don't make me do this the ugly way.”
His tone left no room for negotiation.
Sylvia stared coldly out the window, pretending she hadn't heard him.
Ashton let out a low chuckle. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, burying his face in her shoulder as he deliberately asked, “Why so quiet all of a sudden?”
Sylvia was incredibly annoyed by him, yet she couldn't push him away. She seriously suspected this man had a split personality.
Ashton breathed in her scent almost greedily, his voice dropping to a soft murmur. “I'm asking you nicely right now. Don't be disobedient, or I don't even know what I might do.”
Sylvia remained silent.
When they arrived downstairs at her apartment complex, Sylvia walked away without a backward glance. Julian had been waiting at home for her this whole time. With her phone unreachable and no way to contact her, there was no way he would just sit around unbothered.
Sylvia briefly explained what had happened today, mentioning that Ashton had come looking for her.
Julian studied her expression carefully. “Are you alright?”
Sylvia forced a small smile. “I'm fine. It's just that my family owed him some money, and I've already paid it off. But from now on... I probably won't be contacting my family anymore.”
Julian stroked her hair. “It's okay. I'll be your family from now on.”
A warm feeling rushed through Sylvia's heart.
After finally washing up and lying in bed, she received another message from Ashton. He had used her phone earlier to unblock his own number.
He sent two photos. They were taken when he had forced a kiss on her, but looking at the pictures, there was no way to tell she had been coerced.
[WY]: If you don't make things clear and move out within three days, I'll send these pictures straight to your fiancé.
[WY]: And regarding the debt your family owes, you'd better think carefully about how to handle it.
Penelope Caldwell had assigned her a new personal assistant, Ellie Ward. First thing in the morning, Ellie messaged Sylvia to confirm the day's itinerary.
There was nothing scheduled for the morning, but she had a magazine cover shoot in the afternoon. Shoots like this typically required an hour or two just for makeup, and the photography itself took a long time.
Sylvia used a warm compress on her eyes, and by noon, the swelling was practically invisible.
Her mood had barely improved when she saw Ashton calling her.
Gritting her teeth, Sylvia hung up. The phone immediately rang again.
Pinching the bridge of her nose, she finally answered.
Ashton's deep, mellow voice came through lazily. “Are you at home? Come out and play, or should I come find you?”
Sylvia could hear the noisy background on his end, sounding like he was at The Reign. She even heard a girl calling him “Ash.” Having absolutely no desire to deal with him, she flatly replied, “I have work to do. I don't have time.”
“You have time to work, but no time to pay me back?” he asked coldly.
