Sylvia instantly shut her mouth.
Right at that moment, the Ferris wheel ground to a violently sudden halt at the very peak.
They were left suspended high above the earth. Looking out, the dark river below sparkled menacingly, and the people on the ground looked like tiny ants. Sylvia glanced down and instantly felt her legs turn to jelly.
She clung frantically to the safety rail, even though it offered absolutely zero protection.
"Why did we stop?" she demanded, snapping her head toward him.
Ashton looked equally surprised. He pulled out his phone and called Gideon for an update. "It's fine. Minor electrical glitch. We'll be moving in a minute."
He tilted his head, studying her face. "Scared?"
A devilish, intoxicating smirk played on his lips. He clearly wasn't in any rush to get down.
Sylvia was deeply terrified of heights. Ashton slid his arm around her waist, whispering against her skin like a demon offering salvation. "If you're scared, just hold on tight."
Sylvia only wanted one thing. "Where is my phone? I need to call my fiancé."
Yes, she was terrified, but the absolute last person on earth she wanted comfort from was the monster standing right next to her.
Suddenly, Ashton's expression completely froze.
After a long, agonizing silence, his eyes narrowed to venomous slits. He let out a chilling laugh. "Missing him that much? Fine. I will absolutely bury him."
Ice flooded Sylvia's veins. "Don't you dare. I forbid you to touch Julian."
Ashton sneered, though a muscle feathered violently in his jaw. He didn't even bother trying to hide the psychotic jealousy radiating from his expression.
"If you mention his name one more time..."
Before he could finish his threat, the Ferris wheel jolted back to life. Sylvia went totally pale, terrified that the entire structure was going to collapse.
Seeing her sheer panic, Ashton buried his face in the crook of her neck, laughing so hard his chest shook. "Dying together doesn't sound too bad. What do you think?"
He was a total psychopath!
Sylvia gasped, struggling to catch her breath. "What exactly does this prove? You can force yourself on me all you want, but you're still nothing to me."
Ashton raised a mocking eyebrow. He powered off her phone, casually sliding it back into his pocket. "If I'm the other man, then you're the cheating whore. Neither of us is morally superior."
Sylvia's eyes were bloodshot with rage. Who was cheating with him?!
"I already told you I'd pay you back! What more do you want?!"
Ashton's smile was icy and cruel. "How? How are you going to afford it? Didn't you already extort that thirty million from Vivienne? How do you plan on getting the remaining twenty? Begging Julian for it?"
His eyes were entirely devoid of warmth. "Break off the engagement, and I'll wipe the debt clean."
Sylvia stood frozen on the pavement. Her vision blurred completely as the tears finally spilled over.
He simply couldn't stand to see her happy!
Seeing her stand there crying, heavy tears ruining her makeup like a lost, pathetic kitten, Ashton bent down and effortlessly scooped her up into his arms. He carried her all the way back to the car, shooting her a cold, dismissive look.
