Chapter 91
Despite Caster’s best efforts, the company’s downward spiral continued unabated. No matter what strategies he implemented, their stocks continued to plummet, and a sense of unease permeated the workplace.
Although he had managed to clear his name by having one of his subordinates take the fall for the illegal pipeline scandal. the company still faced a barrage of criticism and hostility from all sides. It seemed as though an ren force was working against him.
Five days after the fateful board meeting, Caster finally came to terms with his failure. His father would be back in three days, and he feared he might be forced to step down from his position for him-an outcome he wanted to avoid.
Yes, that man’s presence troubled him that much.
Coming up with a solution before his parents arrived was all he could think about. He couldn’t get any more deals since Felicity had ignored his warnings and stole all of them. In fact, she didn’t even need to resort to underhanded tactics anymore, as clients now flocked to her willingly.
With no other choice, Caster could only agree to Xander’s proposal and merge their companies-as much as he hated the idea.
They negotiated the terms of the merger and agreed for Caster to keep the leadership role of the combined entity. It was approved by the board of directors, and surprisingly, Mario provided the funding for the merger.
At the end of the day, Caster felt he had walked into a trap, Xander had provided all the funds and saved Walker Corporation without insisting on sharing the leadership role. Caster found this selfless gesture suspicious. Nevertheless, with no other viable option, he proceeded with it.
Almost immediately the deal was sealed, sales skyrocketed again for the company, and their stocks began to climb up. Everything was going smoothly once again to everyone’s relief.
In a private room in a restaurant, Caster and Xander were having a meal to celebrate the occasion.
But despite the successful merger, Caster couldn’t help but feel a lingering sense of unease, as though this was just the calm before the storm. Or maybe it was his paranoia talking and everything would be fine.
Either way, he needed to read Xander’s true intentions.
“I must say, your idea was brilliant, Xander. How did you know the merger would work in our favour?” Caster asked, taking a sip from his champagne, sharply gazing at Xander sitting opposite him.
They were both dressed formally for the occasion and adorned with expensive accessories as if they were trying to outdo each other. Despite the beautiful room where they were dining, the tension overshadowed everything else.
Xander shrugged, unfazed by Caster’s piercing gaze, it was nothing compared to the stare of his boss. “An instinct, I guess. I couldn’t sit aside and watch as everything went down. He replied nonchalantly, biting into his chicken. Each word that came out of his mouth was well-calculated and manipulated to maintain his facade.
“I owe you a big thank you. How can I repay you?” Caster asked, bluntly.
Xander laughed, tilting his head to the side with a grin, ‘Ask me again when you’re sincere.”
“What do you mean by that?” A black line formed on Caster’s head and his gaze grew sharp.
Xander raised his hands in surrender when he saw his reaction. I don’t mean any offence, Mr. Walker. But it’s clear that you neither like nor trust me for some reason. Your appreciation for the merger sounded forced. I understand you don’t like receiving help, but at least show a modicum of sincerity.”

“Wincenty,” Caster echoed, sating down his steak knife with a clatter. “That’s a concept that doesn’t exist in the business world. I’m afraid. Yes, you did save my company, and that is why I’m offering something in

“If you really want sincerity, Caster continued, “then you’re right, I admit that I’m not fond of you, Xander. People like you get under my skin”
Xander arched a brow at the twinge of hostility he detected in Caster’s voice, “And why is that?”
“Let’s see. Caster propped his chin up with his hand. “You and your boss came out of nowhere, took a failing business, and miraculously turned it into a success within just a few months. You targeted my company and have managed to wiggle your way into my board of directors after acquiring a significant amount of shares from the company. Now, you propose a merger to help me at my brink. No one is that generous without an ulterior motive.”
“Anything else?” Xander pressed.
“No.”
“It seems you are wary of me, Mr. Walker. Possibly scared even,” He commented, “But no worries, you terrify me too, but I assure you that neither I nor Mario have any bad intentions towards you. You’ve always been a man I admire, and I’m willing to do anything to see you on your feet.”
“That sounds a little obsessive.” Caster retorted
Xander smiled, “I plan to give you everything you deserve. Consider this my attempt to forge a friendship.”
Caster eyed Xander’s outstretched hand, intrigued. Even now, he couldn’t read Xander’s expression. The man was either a genius or a fool to seek friendship with someone like him.
But Caster found it interesting. Looking at Xander was like looking in a mirror. Xander was c**ing, but not as cng as him. He might think himself as a bl**y genius, but Caster planned to leech off him and discard the poor fellow.
As they say, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. He took Xander’s hands and shook them. “Friends” He confirmed.
The rest of their meal continued in silence until Xander had to leave to attend to important business.
When Caster was alone, he finally revealed the pain he had been hiding and his face scrunched up as he gripped his abdomen in pain. His sickness was not getting better and his health was deteriorating rapidly, but he was convinced that everything would be worth it in the end.
All the pain and trouble would be over after he got his hands on Felicity once again. She would cure him. Since his company issue was fixed, he was presented with all the time on the word to achieve that
