Chapter 218 

Noah returned to his office where lan and Axel were eagerly waiting for him. They had been in the middle of a meeting when the call about Caster came in, making him rush to see if Felicity was fine. 

He let out a sigh. 

The security around his dear wife was top–notch against the elusive Kagen, but it had made it easy for someone like Caster to slip through the cracks. 

Caster hadn’t been on their radar in months. They had almost forgotten about him. Who would have thought that after everything the man would show his face to Felicity? 

“What happened? Is my sister–in–law alright?” Ian was the first to ask. 

“She’s fine, just a bit grumpy,” He said with a resigned sigh, taking his seat opposite them. 

Axel scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Just take care of that ex of hers once and for all,” he said, his voice dripping with annoyance. “The pesky thing has lived too long already.” 

Noah shook his head. “I’d like to take care of him, but that would violate our contract,” He explained, his words heavy with the weight of consequences. “And meddling in her business–especially now–could give her the opening she needs to escape.” 

Ian and Axel exchanged glances, understanding flashing through their eyes. They were well aware of the contract and what it entailed. 

Ian himself had been elated when he had discovered the loophole in the contract. Seeing his best friend’s marriage slowly fading away was bad enough. He wanted nothing more than to see Noah and Felicity happy like before. But, Felicity’s resistance had proved to be an obstacle he hadn’t quite anticipated. 

Axel clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Remind me never to fall in love.” 

“Yeah right.” Noah snorted. Axel raised a challenging brow which he dismissed with a wave. “Alright, then. Let’s get back to business. What have we got?” 

“Nothing,” Ian chuckled, dryly. “Absolutely nothing.” 

Axel gave him the stink eye. “It’s not funny,” He said. Ian snickered in response, earning him a light smack to the shoulder. “Stop laughing. It makes us look pathetic.” 

“Well, we are pathetic.” Ian countered, his playful grin morphing into a tight–lipped scowl. “I’ve solved every case ever thrown at me, found a way around every obstacle. But this…” he tapped his fingers on the desk. “this is driving me to the brink of insanity.” 

“The investigation isn’t going well?” Noah asked, sitting up. His apprehension was apparent, his posture rigid. When neither Axel nor lan responded, he pushed, “Talk to me! What happened?” 

Axel exhaled, his shoulders dropping with the weight of the news, “They are all dead, Noah.” 

“Who died?” 

“All Kagen’s men we’ve captured from their hideouts. They all died.” Axel confirmed. 

Noah’s face was a mask of bewilderment, his eyes narrowing in disbelief. “How could you kill them all?” He groaned, brushing his hand through his face. 

“I didn’t,” Axel rushed to defend himself. “We woke up and found them dead. Every one of them.”

Chapter 218 

“How?” 

“I don’t know.”

Angry, Noah retorted, “Well, something must have happened to them,” He exclaimed. “Was something mixed in their food? Their water? Were they drugged? They can’t all just drop dead out of nowhere.” 

Axel sighed. “We’re running tests,” he said. “The doctor should have the results soon. But for now, we’ve got nothing. No witnesses, no leads, and the other hideouts we found were deserted. It’s like all of them disappeared into thin air. Kagen, too, has been oddly quiet.” 

Noah stood up and walked to the window. He was boiling inside everything ticked him off, his mind whirling with frustration. He knew it wasn’t Axel’s fault, but how could more than twenty people just die out of the blue? It was absurd. 

“What about the search for Kagen himself? Any leads from Felicity’s tip?” He asked. 

Ian reported, his words clipped. “We searched every beach house in the city, but Kagen’s trail has gone cold. We’re scouring every inch of abandoned beaches, hoping to find something, but Kagen might have run away already just like his men did.” 

Noah let out a dry laugh, looking at the sky. “Run away? I doubt that. He’s too prideful to do that.” 

He gazed at the city and snickered. His building was so tall, he could see almost everything from where he stood. The height and grandeur of this building alone spoke volumes of the power he wielded in the country. 

Yet, he couldn’t find one man. 

If the world knew of his dilemma, the grace, grandeur, and power of the Elsworth family would crash in a day. Enemies they had suppressed would rise to challenge them. That was the threat Kagen’s existence posed to him. And he couldn’t let that happen. 

“One of K’s men joined us sometime back, right? The one who shot Felicity.” Noah asked. 

Axel nodded. “Yes, Mike. He has been really helpful.” 

Noah turned. “Did he find anything odd about the death of his former teammates? I seem to remember him telling us that some of them were turning up dead before he left.” 

“He hadn’t seen anything like it. While he was in the hideouts, he only noticed a few guys missing weekly. Not a full–blown massacre like this.” 

Noah let out a deep breath, “We’ll wait for the autopsy,” He conceded, taking his seat with a tired exhale. “In the meantime, I want every man on Kagen’s trail. Scour the city, turn every stone. And also dig deeper into the lives of every family in this country. I need to know where that bastard came from as soon as possible.” 

Ian and Axel nodded, then stood up and left. During the day, Noah buried himself in his work trying to forget everything. 

It was late when he returned to the Villa. Cassandra had offered him dinner but he didn’t have any appetite. He went upstairs, pausing in front of Felicity’s room, his hand hesitated on the knob. 

With a heavy sigh, he turned away from her door, his footsteps echoing down the hallway. He’d meant it when he’d declared that he’d make her beg, even if the prospect left a bitter taste in his mouth. 

He retreated to his study and continued where he left off at the office.
