Chapter 36
“What are you doing here?” Felicity asked, still in disbelief.
“You two know each other?” Rebecca interjected, her confusion evident as she looked between them.
“Noah, that’s your wife?!” Axel exclaimed incredulously.
“That’s your cousin?!” Felicity responded in shock. Axel Elsworth was the blonde, green-eyed jerk who had almost gotten her killed.
Axel’s mouth hung open in disbelief as he watched Felicity sitting next to his favourite cousin. He looked to Noah for an explanation, but Noah simply shrugged.
Axel reluctantly came and sat opposite Felicity at the dining table, throwing her a small glare. To him, she was a heartless woman, and he wanted nothing to do with her.
Felicity returned Axel’s glare with even more intensity. This troublemaker had put her life on the line twice and still had the audacity to glare at her. S**t just got reall
Both of them turned to Noah, as he was the only connection between them. What the hell did he do?
Noah simply sipped his tea leisurely, knowing this confrontation was inevitable but still lacking a proper explanation for either of them.
don’t know how you two met, but I guess we can spare the introductions,” Rebecca said with an oblivious grin. Felicity wondered if she was simply not reading the room or pretending not to notice. “Axel, you’ve gotten thinner! Are you eating? I’ll tell the maids to pack you a lot of food when you leave.”
Axel finally tore his eyes from Felicity and softened his gaze at Rebecca. “Thank you, Aunty. I’ve been through a lot.”
“So, how did you both meet?” Finnic asked Axel, trying to steer the conversation away from the tension between Felicity and Axel. It was the first time he had spoken openly since the beginning of dinner.
Axel grimaced before replacing it with a smile. Not wanting to worry his uncle and aunty, he replied, “We got trapped together once and she helped us escape.”
“That’s good then.” Finnic replied and then his phone rang. He excused himself and left to answer the call.
Rebecca too also stood up to attend to things in the kitchen leaving the three of them alone in the room.
The tension intensified as Axel engaged in a staring contest with Felicity.
“You guys should cut it out. You’re no longer kids.” Noah reprimanded them.
Felicity turned and shot him a glare, “You have a lot of explaining to do, husband!” She spat with venom
“Why would you marry this despicable woman?” Axel asked in distaste.
“Says the one who almost had me killed.”
You left me to die!”
“It’s not my fault you are a troublemaker. I was assassinated after parting ways with you. Those men followed me to my home. Come to think of it, I should have you arrested.”

Chapter 36
Axel seemed surprised by the additional information. He wasn’t aware she was followed. “Are you alright?”
“I am, no thanks to you.” Felicity answered, refusing to look at Noah. She hated being deceived to her core and she had a feeling he had done just that.
As Felicity mulled over the events, she couldn’t shake the feeling that saving her couldn’t have been a mere coincidence. Why would someone like Axel be pursued by gunmen? The absurdity and foul play surrounding this house were unmistakable. Something was definitely amiss. What were they hiding?
“What kind of trouble did you cause that warranted my life? Do Rebecca and Finnic even know what you’ve been up to?” Felicity demanded, her tone laced with suspicion.
“You can’t tell them,” Noah interjected firmly.
Felicity arched a brow at him. “You’re supporting his dangerous lifestyle.”
“My lifestyle has nothing to do with you, Miss Felicity, Axel retorted, leaning against the table and meeting her gaze head- on. A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes for a moment before it was replaced with a blank expression.
Unfazed, Felicity returned his gaze. “When it involves my life, it has everythi
to do with me, Mr. Axel.”
A small smirk played at the corners of Noah’s lips as he observed Felicity in action. Not everyone could stand up to Axel, but she had done so, not only to Axel but also to him.
Truly brave.
Thankfully, before the situation could escalate further, Rebecca returned, diffusing the tension.
“Noah, let’s talk, Axel said, urging Noah to stand up. They both left to have a quiet chat in a corner.
Axel’s voice was low and controlled as he addressed Noah, his tone betraying a hint of warning. “Noah, we need to talk. About Felicity.”
Noah’s features hardened at the mention of her name, his expression unreadable as he met Axel’s gaze. “What about her?”
“She is a problem.”
Noah’s jaw tightens slightly, knowing the delicate nature of the situation. “She’s my wife, Axel. I married her to protect her from the mess you dragged her into.”
Axel’s eyes narrow at the revelation, a flicker of surprise crossing his face before he schools his features into a mask of indifference. “Your wife? Really? Why would you marry someone out of the blue? And why do you care anyway?” He repeats, disbelief lacing his voice.
“Yes. And she doesn’t know about the things we do and we have to keep it that way.” Noah nods, his gaze unwavering. “I care because she doesn’t deserve to be punished for something she didn’t do.”
Axel’s jaw clenches as he absorbs the information, a myriad of emotions swirling in his mind. “And what do you expect me to do about it?” he finally responds, his voice cold and distant.
Noah exhales slowly, his expression grave. “I expect you to stay away from her. Keep her out of our world, Axel. She deserves
better.”
The tension between them thickens, the weight of their shared history and conflicting loyalties hanging heavy in the air as they both silently acknowledge the dangerous path ahead.

Chapter 36
“I don’t think you can keep her out for long. She’s a target and he will come for her.”
“He already did but I’m ready to protect her with my life, Axel.”
Axel sported a confused look before realisation dawned on him, “You like her.” He stated.
“It’s temporary.”

Axel scoffed, “B**it!” He ran his hand through his blonde hair in frustration. “I don’t know what you see in her but I will respect your decision. I will try and clean up my mess now that know what’s at stake, you try and clean up yours.” He huffed before storming outside for some air.
Felicity watched the exchange between them from afar in silence. She figured it was an intense discussion from their body. language and she had a feeling it was because of her.
“Don’t worry about them. They fight a lot but are thick as thieves Rebecca reassured her, when she saw Felicity staring at them. She handed Felicity another cup of tea.
“Oh, I’m not worried about them.” Felicity blurted out without thinking.
Rebocca laughed, ‘I’ve heard so many things about you but you are not nothing like the rumour says. Noah likes you so I approve of you,” and then, with a sudden change in demeanour, her smile tightened, and her eyes took on a steely glint. In a voice that’s still honeyed but laced with warning, she begins to speak, “But don’t do anything to hurt my son or I will come for you.
