Immediately Noah stepped out of the car, his gaze was transfixed on Felicity, absorbing every detail of her appearance. Her squatting form, a curious sight amidst the chaos, had momentarily frozen him, the urge to sweep her into a protective embrace nearly overwhelming. When we got married, he switched his target to you.” He finished, unable to look at the disbelief in Felicity’s eyes.
Felicity’s disbelief, her confusion transforming into a raw, hurt betrayal, rippled through the air. “Everything I’ve been through,” she started, her voice wavering with accusation, “all because of you. All this while, I thought I was the one bringing trouble into your life when it’s been the opposite. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I-I didn’t know at first,” Noah stumbled, his voice thick with regret. “That’s not an excuse. I’m sorry. But while investigating, I realised he was more connected to you than I thought.”
Felicity’s exasperation was palpable. “That’s a lie. I’ve never met Kagen before in my life. In two lives even,” she retorted, shaking her head in disbelief.
Her last comment struck everyone as weird but they decided to ignore it. She always had a weird sense of humour.
Noah, desperation seeping into his voice, pleaded, “I’ll explain later. Come to me.”
“If she moves I shoot,” Kagen warned, his gun directed at Felicity. “Felicity, why don’t you come over here? I’ll give you the best life there is.”
Axel stepped into the fray, addressing Felicity with concern. “Felicity, don’t listen to him. Come.”
But she was having none of it. “Didn’t you just hear what he said? I prefer my body with no bullet holes, thank you very much,” she snapped, her voice tinged with a wry humour.
Noah sighed, “Fine, I’ll come to you then.” Just as he moved, Kagen fired a shot. The sound of the gunshot puncturing the silence. The bullet whizzed past Felicity’s head, missing her by a fraction.
Noah saw this and his jaw ticked with rage. He was hesitant to shed flood in front of Felicity, but he had changed his mind. He was done playing nice. He would do whatever was necessary to end this, and if that meant Felicity saw a side of him he’d tried to keep hidden, so be it. She would just have to forgive him for this too. He called, “Ian!”
With a deafening boom, the ground beneath Kagen and his men erupted, their screams swallowed by the sound of the detonation of the bomb that had been placed at that spot before time.
The stench of burning flesh and smoke filled the air. The place suddenly plunged into chaos and both sides opened fire.
