Since Adeline was dropping the act, Summer saw no reason to play nice.

"What exactly are you apologizing for, Ms. Ashcroft? For destroying someone else's marriage, or for carrying my husband's child?"-

Summer knew she sounded harsh, but no woman on earth could smile at the mistress carrying her husband's baby.

She also knew it took two to tango; the blame didn't rest solely on Adeline.

"Summer, what the hell are you doing here!"

The moment the words left Summer's mouth, a furious, booming voice echoed as the door was violently thrown open.

"Kelvin?"

Summer recoiled in shock. What was he doing here?

A second later, her surprise twisted into bitter realization.

Her husband stood right in front of her, shielding the homewrecker behind his back, glaring at Summer as if she were his mortal enemy.

She understood perfectly now. Kelvin had come to see Adeline, conveniently spotted her here, and overheard their entire exchange.

"Apologize to Adeline right now!"

His suffocating, authoritative demand left no room for argument.

Summer stared at him in disbelief before her expression hardened into ice. "Why on earth would I apologize?"

Kelvin faltered. In three years of marriage, Summer had never once spoken back to him. What had gotten into her?

His brow furrowed deeper, a terrifying storm brewing in his eyes.

"Kelvin, please. She's your wife. Don't be so harsh with her," Adeline murmured, gently intervening.

Ironically, the man who had looked ready to murder Summer instantly softened at Adeline's sweet persuasion.

Still, his glare remained deadly.

"You've completely misunderstood the situation," Adeline said gently. "The baby I'm carrying isn't Kelvin's. My fiancé tragically passed away, and Kelvin simply stepped in to help out a grieving mother. I'm sorry you got the wrong idea."

She turned to look up at Kelvin. "Kelvin, I've told you before. I'm going to raise Samuel's child on my own. You have a family. You need to stop coming around here before you cause any more issues with your wife."

At her words, Kelvin's usually composed demeanor shattered into absolute panic. Desperate to prove himself, he seized Adeline's hand. "Adeline, Samuel was my best friend. His family is my family. I'm going to take care of you and this baby, and no one is going to stop me."

"But—"

Adeline hesitated, glancing at Summer, whose face had drained of all color.
