The Wrong Brother’s Temptation

Chapter 157

Sienna

“I mean I don’t want to hear it,” he said simply like it was obvious.

“Why not?”

He shrugged. “Because it’s cheating”

I looked at him with my mouth half open before responding, “It’s not cheating, it’s just being prepared

“Yes, it is,” he reaffirmed. “I don’t want to know what they asked him.”

I stood there with my mouth half-open, completely unable to reconcile this with anything I understood about

him.

The Connor I knew in childhood did all things under the sun that were not right and never lost sleep over it.

“But you…” I fumbled to find the right words, “…you had no issue with…”

His gaze fell on me again and there was something wry in his expression that didn’t quite reach humor.

“With cheating, bullying and making you suffer every single day so much that you partied when I left the town?”

I didn’t say anything, because that was, in fact, exactly what I’d been about to say. But hearing him say it back to me left me stunned for a while.

Besides, how did he know I had partied when he left?

“Yeah I know,” He said, turning back to look at the moon. “I was an idiot no doubt but finding out someone rejoiced to never see your face again is kinda…”

He trailed off. Fuck, he deserved that so why did I feel gutted?

“Old me was selfish and reckless,” he said, quieter now. “Besides, a pretty girl said she would have been my friend if I wasn’t an asshole.”

He thought I was pretty AND wanted to be friends with me???

The casanova who made even the most gorgeous, high profile models work hard to get a chance to sleep with him for a second time?

He was just being polite I guess. And damn, I was not liking this version of him.

“Elder Johansson already hates you. You need every advantage you can get.”

“I’ll take my chances,” he said in a steady, unbothered voice that made arguing further feel pointless.

I frowned at him anyway, mostly out of principle, and he let the silence sit for a beat before angling the conversation somewhere else entirely.

“So what made you come find me so late at night to begin with?,” he said, “because you found out about Aaron’s interview after you came here?”

My stomach dropped straight through the terrace floor.

This was the part I’d rehearsed on the drive over, and come up with three separate versions of an opening sentence that had all sounded reasonable in my head. But none of them were currently available to me now that I actually needed one.

“I…” I started, and stopped before trying again. “I went to see a specialist.”

Something shifted in his posture immediately, all the loose casualness sharpening into full attention. “About what?”

“The scent thing,” I supplied. “The thing you told me about.”

“We were managing it just fine” He argued but I shifted my weight from one leg to another uneasily.

“You were, not we. And I realized it was distracting you from your other tasks and duties so I decided to do something about it”

Connor narrowed his brows like he wasn’t liking where this was going.

“She gave me a suppressant,” I said, the words coming faster now before he would cut me off and ask me to stop taking the meds altogether.

“It should dampen it, but she said strong emotional or physical…” I could feel my whole face going hot as I continued “…spikes can break through it. So I need to test the dosage.”

“Test it how,” he asked in a voice that had gone very low.

I looked at the moon instead of at him.

“I need you to try and…seduce me on purpose. Flirt with me just so I can see if the meds hold or I need a higher dosage.”

The silence that followed felt like it lasted several decades at once.

I risked a glance at him and noticed that he had gone completely still.

Then the corner of his lips curled up, that familiar smirk of his I had a love and hate relationship with lighting up his face with a slow and dangerous glow.

“Let me get this straight. You’re asking me…to seduce you….as a medical experiment.”

“No!” I closed my eyes briefly, not having the courage to look him in the eye.

“Yes, maybe technically I am asking you that. But you have to respect the rules I laid out earlier.”

He took a step closer and I forced myself to not step back subconsciously.

The space between us that had felt manageable a second ago suddenly didn’t, and I felt my heart race all over again as an involuntary chill that had nothing to do with the cold ran down my spine.

Some strands of hair fluttered against my face as a gust of wind swept past me.

“Speckles,” he breathed low. “You just handed me, your lifelong bully, permission to torture you on purpose.”

He kept observing me like he couldn’t decide if I was joking or not.

“Don’t say it like that.” I whispered. “I am trusting you to go slow at first”

“And you also expect me to be well-behaved about it?” He quipped, that smirk now turning into a full blown

smile.

“That’s the deal,” I said, and my voice came out slightly less steady than I wanted it to.

“What do I get for participating in this ‘purely for science’ experiment?”

Goodness, he was grinning like this was the best day of his life. And fuck me if I didnt find that smile a bit too distracting.

‘Focus’ I reminded myself sternly.

“Don’t you want to be free of this ridiculous thing my body is doing and focus on your alpha tasks better? The succession talks have already begun and I am distracting you. So, this is for your benefit as well” I came up with some reason that sounded logical in my head at least.

“If you mean to say I am not in control of myself, may I remind you that I don’t lunge at you every second you are around.”

I curled my fingers into fists.

“Thank you for that but the doctor said my wolf was…being weird so I have to bring her on the right path.” I mumbled, more to myself than to him.

When he didn’t say anything, I added in a small voice.

“You will help me right? In fixing whatever is wrong with me?”

“What doctor did you go to anyway? We have the best doctors in the city, you saw how he tested Elder Johanson in the blink of an eye”

“No” I shook my head, feeling embarrassed at the mere idea of discussing this with his doctor. Telling him this was torturous enough already, I couldn’t even imagine sitting next to him as I explained my condition.

“Only you and me know about it and lets keep it that way”

One of his brows shot up. “Only the two of us?”

“And Jane but I trust her”

“Not Aaron? Your best friend in the whole wide world?”

I exhaled slowly. “Especially not him. And if you tell him, I will kill you in your sleep”

“With the same knife you brought to kill me the first time?” he asked with a mischievous glint.

“Connor, this isn’t funny.”

“I accept,” he said solemnly.

“You do?”
