I was spared the need to answer him because there was a knock on the door.

Connor’s eyes flicked toward the sound, then back to me, lingering just long enough that my skin prickled just from the intensity of his gaze.

“Come in,” Connor called, voice rough but steady and stepped away.

The doctor stepped inside while adjusting his glasses and sifting through the papers on his clipboard.

He saw us both and offered Connor a warm smile.

“How are you feeling now, Alpha?”

Connor was already regarded as the alpha even if he didn’t have the official title yet.

Connor’s gaze slid to me again, slow and deliberate, before he answered. “I was feeling a bit tired but the morning dose of the medicine refreshed me.”

I rolled my eyes so hard I was surprised they didn’t stick.

The absolute nerve of him!!

He said it like he hadn’t just rearranged my entire nervous system against a hospital wall an hour ago and the word refreshed didn’t currently make my thighs press together of their own traitorous accord.

I slipped into the bathroom before either of them could comment on the color flooding my cheeks.

The fluorescent light above the small sink was unforgiving. I turned the water on, let it run cold, and then made the mistake of looking at myself in the mirror.

Oh no!

I slapped my hand on my mouth to stop the wail from escaping it.

My neck was a disaster. Faint red marks bloomed along the column of my throat, some already darkening into proper bruises.

One particularly vivid bite sat just above my collarbone, the edges of it disappearing under the neckline of my dress like it was trying to hide.

I felt mortified all over again.

I pushed my hair behind and took a good look at all the bite marks, all the bruises he had left all over me, my chapped lips, my flushed skin.

I didn’t even dare look down at my thighs because they were still deliciously sore.

My fingers flew up, trying to pull the fabric higher, then attempting to arrange my hair over the worst of it.

Neither worked completely.

The stitching around the sleeves had gotten loose when he had yanked it down to leave a trail of kisses down my collarbone and cleavage.

Every time I shifted, another mark peeked out like it was determined to testify.

I splashed water on my face like it would somehow make it all disappear, muttering under my

“Calm down. It’s fine.”

breath.

Then I recalled Aaron’s flushed face and I knew why exactly he had been stunned and speechless. He had not just walked in on Connor finishing inside me, I also cluelessly roamed around the room with all the bite marks shining on my skin like a beacon while trying to have a conversation with him.

No doubt he looked horrified.

I buried my face in my hands. What would he think of me?

I was starting to panic, and uselessly brushing my hair with my fingers, thinking of a way to erase that memory from Aaron’s mind.

“Relax” I told myself, grabbing a few tissues and wiping myself up and down. “Aaron already saw the main event. A few love bites are the least of your problems.”

I felt filthy. Maybe I should just stay hidden here for a while…

Outside I could hear the doctor and Connor’s conversation and wondered not for the first time, how could Connor sound so unfazed while I was almost having a complete meltdown.

Mortification crashed over me so hard I nearly choked on it but then it curdled into anger.

Connor could have told me to cover up, to not walk around like a walking confession.

But he’d been so thoroughly pleased with himself that he’d marked me up and then acted like nothing had happened once his brother walked in.

By the time I stepped back out, the doctor was already turning toward the door. He caught sight of me and offered a polite smile.

“Miss Miller. Thank you for staying with him through the night. Having a loved one close by helps ground the wolf so the alpha can reassert control more quickly.”

I side-eyed Connor so hard it should have come with a warning label. He only nodded with an expression that was pure, innocent arrogance.

“Yes,” he replied mildly. “My wolf is very pleased with her.”
