My body betrayed me and a shudder ran down my spine that had nothing to do with the cold door pressing into my back.
“You almost died. You can’t just…” I sputtered like a dying engine.
“I can.” A faint, crooked almost-smile touched the corner of his mouth. “And I just did.”
The arrogance was back, but softer around the edges. His eyes were more dark brown now though I could see a few gold flecks here and there.
So I wasn’t even sure if it was Connor speaking or his wolf or both. But this felt more like the version of Connor who’d always known exactly how to get under my skin and had decided, at some point, that he liked living there.
“You’re being weird,” I pointed out.
“You’re still flushed.” His gaze dropped briefly to my mouth, then lower, to the pulse jumping in my throat. “And you keep shifting your weight like you’re trying not to feel what I left inside you.”
Heat exploded across my face. “Connor!!!”
“What? I’m injured, not blind rr dead.” He tilted his head, studying me with that same unnerving focus. “You loved it. I can smell it along with everything else.”
Oh fuck!
I hadn’t taken the meds for today yet because I had forgotten all about it and just fell asleep by his side.
Was that the reason his wolf lost control and pounced on me? Or was Connor hiding behind his wolf to blame him for his own actions?
I pressed my legs together as he kept looking at me and Goddess help me, my body was starting to pulse with need again!
I wanted to sink through the floor orr climb him again. The two urges were currently at war and neither was winning cleanly.
“You went from… that,” I gestured vaguely at the wall where he’d had me, “to treating Aaron like he was an inconvenience and then telling me to leave you alone. Forgive me for needing a second to catch up.”
Connor’s expression flickered and something almost like regret flashed in his briefly but was gone so fast 1 might have imagined it.
He lifted his free hand, the one still faintly smeared with the blood from the IV site, and brushed a strand of hair away from my face a bit too gently.

“It could be the meds,” he replied, as if that explained the entire personality swing. “Or blood loss or seeing my brother’s horrified face two seconds after I finished inside you. Feel free to take your pick.”
The bluntness of it stole whatever reply I’d been forming.
“Are you for real?”
“You’re not leaving,” he repeated in a quieter voice. “We have some unfinished business that we need to finish…alone.”
My eyes widened in half surprise, half yearning and his eyes darkened with amusement.
“A…about what?”
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead he reached past me, twisted the lock on the door with a soft click, and then stepped back just enough to give me space without actually releasing the doorknob from his hand.
The possessive little gesture made something low in my stomach tighten all over again.
“About the fact that I almost died trying to keep our little secret,” he said finally, voice dry as dust. “And about the fact that you let me do whatever I wanted instead of stopping me. And about the fact that my brother now has a mental image I’m never going to let him live down.”
A startled laugh escaped me before I could stop it. The sound felt too loud in the quiet room. Connor’s mouth twitched again, almost a real smile this time.
“The meds are definitely messing with your head, maybe I need to ask him for your brain scan”
“There is my Speckles,” he murmured. “I was starting to think I’d broken you.”
I tamped down the rush I felt when he called me his and forced my brain to function.
“You nearly did,” I shot back, but there was no real heat in it.
My arms were still folded, but mostly because I didn’t trust my hands not to reach for him. “You’re lucky the entire nursing staff didn’t hear us.”
His gaze dropped to my mouth again. “Aren’t you my well behaved, good girl?”
The words got him the exact reaction he wanted. The arrogance softened into something warmer, but it was unmistakably him.
“Glad to know that you recovered so fast” I replied, noticing the dried blood on his bandages and a few fresh droplets that had soaked into the cotton when he moved too much, too fast.
“But the bandages need to be changed”
“You’re going straight to our room to get showered, changed and get Maria to bring food over here. We will eat together. Don’t you dare leaving me all alone here”
He kind of glared at me but damn I almost smiled at that last line.

The Wrong Brother’s Temptation
Connor, the great alpha heir, was afraid of staying alone in the hospital room?
My lips twitched and his eyes narrowed as if daring me to laugh at that realization.
“Is that you talking or Fang?”
He leaned further into my space. “Does it matter when you want us both?”
I turned a bright shade of red and tore my gaze away from him.
