"Do I look hurt to you? You think everyone is as brainless as you are?"
"..."
Vivian breathed a sigh of relief. Even though she was insulted, as long as he hadn't signed away his soul, it was fine.
But she still didn't know how exactly Silas managed to persuade Marcus. Since he wasn't going to tell her, she knew there was no point prying further, so she dropped it.
However, there was one major downside—
Before, she was locked up alone. Now, there were two of them trapped.
At eight o'clock in the evening, the downstairs area was ablaze with bright lights.
The formalities were likely underway, as faint murmurs of conversation drifted up.
Vivian returned from the doorway to the living room. The man on the sofa looked completely at ease, resting with his eyes closed, though he definitely wasn't asleep.
She stared at him for a long moment before walking over.
"Stop right there."
"..."
Silas seemed to anticipate exactly what she was about to do. Keeping his eyes shut, he warned, "If you take one more step, I'll wring your—"
Before he could finish, the woman lunged forward and straddled him completely. She looped her arms around his neck, her hips settling perfectly against him.
Facing him head-on, she planted a soft kiss squarely on his lips.
"See? You came looking for me. You missed me too, didn't you?"
"..."
Silas opened his eyes, his gaze dark and heavy. "Get off."
"No."
She hadn't changed clothes. She was still wearing the black slip dress. Having shed her outer layer, a vast expanse of her luminous skin was exposed. Her current position caused the skirt to ride dangerously high, bunching up at her thighs and revealing her flawlessly toned legs.
"Vivian."
The muscles in Silas's jaw tightened slightly, as if he were carefully considering the exact words to curse her with.
"Is there a single decent thought in that head of yours?"
