The doctor looked relaxed, but his words were far from good news.
"It's the same as before."
"However, has Miss Fairchild been intentionally forcing herself to walk normally?"
Given the actual state of Vivian's old injury, her gait should be noticeably different from a normal person's. But when they had walked into the office earlier, he hadn't noticed any abnormalities.
Dr. Michaelis sighed and threw his hands up. "Miss Fairchild, you are already exceptional enough. Even a flaw can be a kind of beauty. Why insist on mimicking perfect health? The longer you force yourself, the worse it will be for your recovery."
Not only was she enduring the pain to walk normally, but she also frequently wore high heels.
Zoe shot Vivian a worried look, for the first time carrying a hint of reproach.
"Dr. Michaelis, with my boss's condition..."
She hesitated before asking, "Is there still a chance for a full recovery?"
"It's very difficult."
Dr. Michaelis shook his head. "A piece of the bone is almost completely necrotic. It's a miracle it's even holding up. If you two really aren't ready to give up, I suggest you look into holistic therapies from Eastern medicine. They say some of their traditional techniques work wonders."
From start to finish, Vivian sat to the side like an outsider, letting Zoe and Dr. Michaelis handle the conversation.
"Miss..."
After seeing the doctor out, Zoe felt completely helpless.
She knew what Vivian was thinking, and knowing made her heart ache even more.
Vivian had never believed there was hope for her leg. She had gone numb to these consultations a long time ago, only showing up to humor Zoe.
"It's fine." Vivian reached up and wiped away the tear that had unconsciously slipped down Zoe's cheek. Her tone was light. "It's been so long, and I've been doing just fine."
"The doctor just said it himself—you've been forcing yourself to walk through the pain. No wonder I could never tell anything was wrong. You..."
She couldn't even finish her sentence.
