The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 437

[She likes you so much.]

[I bet she's waiting for you.]

Did Vivian really like him?

He tugged at the corner of his lips in a smirk that could have been self-mockery or something else.

After sitting there for a while longer, Silas pulled out his phone.

iMessage was completely silent. The chat window that was usually blowing up with notifications didn't have a single new message today.

Just then, a red dot popped up on his timeline notifications, accompanied by a grey profile picture.

He clicked it.

There was no caption, just a single photo.

A woman's pale, slender legs were crossed and resting on the edge of a bathtub. In the background was a sprawling, brilliant view of the city's glittering skyline.

Right next to the tub sat a glass of red wine.

She certainly knew how to enjoy herself.

Silas ground his teeth, put his phone away, and got out of the car.

Without turning on the lights, he navigated his way upstairs with ease.

Normally, whenever he pushed open the master bedroom door, a warm yellow light would be on, and the woman would turn to him with a bright smile. "You're home."

Today, there was nothing but heavy darkness.

Silas frowned and reached up to loosen his tie.

When he came out of the shower, the first thing that caught his eye was the ugly stuffed bear lying on the bed. She had to cuddle with it every night, yet she had forgotten to take it with her today.

He walked over quickly, picked it up, and tossed it aside.

The bear bounced off the sofa and landed on the floor.

"..."

It sat there in silence, its stitched-on, smiling eyes seeming to stare right back at him.

Silas rubbed his temples, feeling like he was losing his mind. To think he was actually picking a fight with a stuffed toy.

He stood frozen for a few seconds before striding over on his long legs.

He picked it up and placed it neatly back on the couch.

For the first time, Silas realized just how vast and empty the quiet house felt.

Vivian stayed at the hotel for three days. She wasn't one to have trouble sleeping in a strange bed, so she was actually quite comfortable.
