Whether it was intentional or not remained unknown, but Silas left in the morning and showed absolutely no signs of returning that evening.
He merely had Simon Young pass along a message, claiming there was a severe issue with the project that required him to handle it on-site.
Northside was only so big. Sure, it was a bit of a drive, but was it really so far that he needed to stay overnight?
And exactly how severe was this problem that he had to personally station himself there?
"It's really not that serious. Why did you insist on coming all the way out here yourself? I could have just gone to you and given a report."
Logan Lawson looked at the man half-lying on the sofa. He placed the newly purchased toiletries on the coffee table, his gaze sharp and knowing. "Or are you planning to use this opportunity to expand your territory?"
If that were the case, he would be completely tearing up any remaining goodwill with the Granger family.
Silas opened his eyes, a dull throb radiating from the wound on his shoulder.
"You're overthinking it."
"Then why..."
"If I don't find a quiet place to clear my head, I'm worried I won't survive the month."
That afternoon, Logan had accompanied him to the hospital to get his bandages changed. The doctor noted that the wound, which hadn't been stitched up that long ago, had burst open for the third time. The most important advice was for him to avoid getting his blood pressure up.
His stress levels had spiked so high that the wound had become inflamed.
"Now I'm actually curious. What on earth could make the notoriously stoic Mr. Sterling so worked up?"
Silas picked up the glass of water on the table and took a sip, his tone flat. "Does it have to be a specific event to get me worked up?"
"..."
Logan stayed silent for two seconds before realization dawned on him.
That Miss Fairchild truly had unparalleled charm.
"So you came here... and Miss Fairchild isn't bothering you?"
"She doesn't know." Silas shot him a warning glare, prompting Logan to immediately raise his hands in surrender. "Hey, don't worry. Even setting our friendship aside, based purely on our current business partnership, I would never sell you out."
He sat down on the opposite sofa, his eyes sweeping over the man's relaxed posture as a sly glint flashed in his gaze.
