By the restroom entrance, Scarlett stared blankly at the man in front of her, her deep voice laced with arrogance. "Making such a grand entrance the moment you return to the country... anyone would think you're holding a matchmaking event. What, did your little sweetheart run away?"
The man in the tailored suit remained entirely stoic, the corner of his lips curling up slightly. "Ms. Sinclair, are you very concerned about my private life?"
"Tch."
Scarlett rolled her eyes dismissively. "Who cares about you?"
"I just find you an eyesore. My boyfriend insisted I come today. If I had known it was you, I wouldn't have bothered showing up to be disgusted."
The man finally showed a reaction. His dark eyes flickered, obscure and unreadable.
"A Sterling... is your boyfriend."
"That's right."
Scarlett casually crossed her arms, her demeanor carrying a hint of flaunting. "He's handsome, powerful, and wealthy. Being with him is the ultimate power couple. So, are you happy for me, Zane?"
From the moment she and that man entered the venue, their every move had been under his watch.
Happy for her?
Heh.
He didn't have that kind of free time.
Staring intently at the woman in front of him, he said coldly, "Then I wish you a lifetime of happiness."
The moment those words fell, the lights nearby flared on.
The light spilled over them, stretching their shadows long and fragmented across the floor.
Scarlett clenched her fists without a word. Unbeknownst to her, her eyes had already turned red rimmed, but she bit her lip, stubbornly refusing to let any other emotion slip out.
Suddenly, she didn't want to say anything at all.
She turned and walked away.
Her graceful silhouette reflected in the man's dark eyes. Her long, wavy chestnut hair swayed beautifully in the air with every step she took.
"..."
Earlier, Vivian had wanted to grab a small cake to appease him, but she had barely taken two steps when a male voice shouted from behind: "Look out!"
Before she could process what was happening, she turned to see the collapsing champagne tower. In that split second, Silas lunged forward, wrapping his arms around her and using his own body as a human shield.
Vivian let out a soft breath. Again.
She looked up, meeting the man's pitch-black gaze.
"The ambulance is on its way. Don't move. We need professional tools to pull the glass shards out."
Seeing their intense, sticky eye contact, Scarlett didn't even have the heart to tease them. She wasn't used to seeing such bloody scenes and couldn't keep a straight face.
"Who did this?"
"I don't know."
A fleeting look flashed through Vivian's eyes as she said calmly, "It might have just been a careless server, but just to be safe, we need to call the police and have them investigate."
