The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 378

After a round of greetings, Scarlett's cheeks were already slightly flushed.

"Silas, I seriously suspect you're doing this on purpose to mess with me."

"You're the one who lacks self-control. Do you have to drink just because they ask you to?"

"I'm here as your date tonight, and besides, most of these people know me. I represent the Sinclair family. I can't just brush them off completely. Do you want my dad to kill me?"

"If he kills you, I'll have Sloan Mercer collect your body."

"..." Bastard!

Scarlett slammed her wine glass down on the counter with a loud bang, and... the crystal goblet snapped cleanly in half without a hint of mercy.

A nearby waiter looked over, surprise written all over his face.

"I... didn't mean to do that."

Scarlett raised both hands, not entirely embarrassed. She sighed, her gaze sweeping over the venue. "I'm going to the restroom."

She walked and scanned the crowd, as if searching for something.

She reached the entrance of the restrooms.

The long corridor was completely empty, lined with thick carpets that muffled any footsteps.

Scarlett hadn't walked far when her steps suddenly halted.

Not far away, a man's tall, lean figure leaned against the wall.

The light and shadows illuminated his sharp, handsome face—half in light, half in darkness. His features and physique rivaled any magazine cover model, silently radiating pure masculine charm.

He turned his gaze toward her, his voice relatively calm. "Ms. Sinclair, it's been a while."

Scarlett froze for a few seconds before letting out a cold scoff.

"It certainly has. I thought you were dead."

A gala, fundamentally, was a platform provided by a prominent figure for people to socialize and exchange resources.

As soon as Scarlett left, Silas found a seating area to rest.

His casual, lazy posture was enough to deter many who wanted to approach him.

The woman pouted. "You weren't around, so of course I had to come alone."

Several people nearby cast glances in their direction, but Vivian ignored them completely, slowly getting up to sit beside him. She showed off her dress. "Does it look good?"

It was a black, strapless mermaid gown embedded with subtle sparkles, looking like she was draped in the starry night sky.

"Ugly."

The next second, the woman's expression dropped.

She delivered a solid punch to his stomach.

"When are you going to fix this habit of saying the exact opposite of what you mean?"

"..." Silas took a deep breath, having no desire to bicker with her, and turned his gaze away.

Vivian couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, but she couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was. After all, Silas had always maintained a lukewarm attitude toward her. Had two days apart really made them strangers again?

The countdown to her secret being exposed had begun. And truthfully, she couldn't deny she was totally hooked.
