The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 370

With Vivian, there were no third chances. Make a mistake once, maybe twice, but never a third time.

One more slip-up, and Zoe would be packing her bags and heading straight back to the Vaughan family.

After hanging up, Vivian sat in the garden for a long time. Her deep, unreadable gaze fixed on the hospital entrance, watching the ebb and flow of people—a silent testament to the fleeting warmth and bitter realities of life.

Silas slept straight through until noon. When he finally opened his eyes, the woman's silhouette was resting by the edge of the bed.

She had one hand propping up her cheek as she watched him. Her eyes were impossibly beautiful, their irises catching the bright daylight and shimmering with an inner glow.

A woman like Vivian could never be described as purely innocent.

Even a deliberately exaggerated smile on her face held layers of complexity, completely eclipsing the bland, generic beauty of ordinary people.

"You're awake?"

Her eyes curved into crescents. "Simon already brought lunch. Get up, wash your hands, and let's eat."

Silas's injury was on his right shoulder. While it didn't completely immobilize him, using his right hand was incredibly difficult. Watching him head into the bathroom, Vivian pulled the spoon out of the takeout container.

The second he sat back down, she eagerly offered, "What do you want to eat? I'll feed you."

"No need."

"Why not?"

Vivian glanced pointedly at his bandage. "It's right on the joint. You can't put any pressure on that arm."

Her expression looked genuinely fraught with concern for his wound.

Silas didn't say a word and simply picked up his fork with his left hand.

"Are you really going to eat by yourself?"

"Yes."

"Alright then."

Vivian cast him a few stealthy glances, muttering under her breath, "Don't go around saying I refused to take care of you."

After lunch, Simon reappeared.

"Boss, Chairman Fowler has hired a defense attorney."

The man shot him a cold look. "And you can't find our own lawyers?"

"Don't worry, Miss Fairchild. No matter what happens, the Fowler family will definitely learn their lesson this time. We'll make sure to protect you properly."

Vivian smiled and nodded.

But even if the Fowler family didn't learn their lesson, she wasn't afraid of them.

Silas returned and finalized his discharge paperwork. After having Vivian dropped off at home, he headed straight to the office.

Working through an injury definitely warranted some extra pampering.

The moment he stepped out of a meeting, his phone lit up with a barrage of notifications. Fearing he might miss them on iMessage, she had gone out of her way to send regular text messages.

[What time are you coming home today? I'm cooking dinner for you.]

[Be careful, don't bump your shoulder.]

[Are you in a meeting? Why aren't you replying? Do you not miss me even a little bit?]

[Stay hydrated. I just took a quick nap and dreamed you came home and told me how much you missed me.]
