Vivian pressed her lips together, clearly dissatisfied. "What kind of thing is that to say? You make it sound like I don't want you to get better."
"Do you?"
"Of course. Nobody wants it more than I do."
Him being stuck in the hospital offered her zero benefits anyway.
Silas gave her a deep, assessing look but said nothing, simply lying back down fully clothed on the other side of the bed.
Vivian looked down, admiring his flawlessly handsome features—sharp, aloof, and distinctly aristocratic. Her fingers slowly traced the length of his arm, trailing upward past his jawline until she brushed against his lips.
Just as she leaned in to replace her fingers with her mouth, his eyes flew open.
Simultaneously, an arm clamped around her waist, dragging her sitting form down onto the mattress.
"Can you stop moving for one second?"
"I... was just trying to give you a little kiss to make you feel better."
"No need."
Silas let out a heavy breath. Perhaps he was just getting used to the bizarre way her brain worked, but he couldn't even muster up much anger. "Let me rest for a while, alright?"
"What about me?"
"Get out of bed."
"...And do what?"
The man had already closed his eyes again, his voice slow and leisurely. "Practice some yoga."
Vivian: "..."
She wrinkled her nose. "Fine, I'll be good."
Rustling softly, she got out of bed and slipped into her shoes.
Silas had fully expected her to pull another stunt, but surprisingly, she didn't. She carefully tucked the blanket around him and tiptoed out of the hospital room.
Two bodyguards stood watch outside the door. Vivian took a few steps down the hall before doubling back, locking her eyes on one of them.
"Do you have your phone on you?"
"...Yes."
She held out her hand. "Let me borrow it for a minute."
Though the bodyguard was highly trained, he had never interacted one-on-one with someone so breathtaking. His hands fumbled awkwardly before he finally managed to pull out his phone and offer it to her. "M-Miss Fairchild, there's no passcode."
Vivian hummed in acknowledgment. "I'm going for a walk. Don't follow me."
"Ignore him."
If Jonah Granger wanted to dig his own grave, what did that have to do with her?
If necessary, she wouldn't hesitate to give him a push.
Vivian's expression was entirely devoid of warmth. As her hair brushed against her stunning, almost surreal face, she looked breathtakingly ruthless.
"Find out where Marcus is right now."
Zoe paused for a moment before realizing who she meant...
Marcus Vaughan.
"He hasn't shown his face since that phone call. I'm worried he's scheming something in the shadows."
Zoe stayed quiet for two seconds before murmuring softly, "Vivian, the truth is, Marcus still cares about you."
"Zoe."
"..."
The sharp drop in her tone made Zoe instantly realize she had crossed a line. "I'm sorry, Vivian. It won't happen again."
