Silas pondered for a moment before asking, "Has the identity of the assailant been confirmed?"
"He's a repeat offender with a history of robbery. He just got out of prison not too long ago."
"It seems he's quite nostalgic for life on the inside. Let's ensure he gets to keep Richard Fowler company."
Simon's heart skipped a beat.
It was over.
The boss was genuinely furious this time.
The last time he had been this enraged was... well, the last time.
He bowed respectfully. "Understood."
After Simon left, Silas didn't return to the hospital room. Instead, he took a seat on the bench outside, resting his forehead against his hand and closing his eyes to gather his thoughts.
Less than twenty minutes later, his phone rang.
He answered it without even glancing at the caller ID.
Richard Fowler's low voice vibrated with suppressed rage. "Silas, what is the meaning of this?"
"Forgive my ignorance, Chairman Fowler, but I have no idea what you're referring to."
"Cut the act!"
Watching the police officers waiting outside his door, Richard bellowed in absolute fury, "Do you see what state my son is in? Vivian Fairchild committed a vile act, and she must pay the price for what she's done. Besides, she's completely unscathed, isn't she!"
He never imagined Silas Sterling would go to such extreme lengths for that woman!
Now that the police were involved, regardless of the outcome, the Fowler family's reputation would inevitably suffer.
"Chairman Fowler," Silas replied slowly, his tone eerily calm. "Your son suffered severe injuries, and as a father, it is understandable that you cannot accept it. However, Vivian is not the culprit. Pinning all the blame on a woman... frankly, is beneath you."
A man of true power shouldn't seek vengeance against the weak or target women. It merely showcased his own incompetence and pathetic nature.
Richard gritted his teeth. "How can you prove she isn't the culprit?"
"Do you have any proof that she is?"
After her nap, her hair tumbled messily over her shoulders. In the natural daylight, her makeup-free face glowed with an ethereal, soft allure.
Her bright, piercing eyes locked onto him as she demanded, "Did you go out?"
"Men's business. Women shouldn't interfere."
"I couldn't care less about other men's business, but when it comes to you..."
Vivian stretched a hand toward him, puffing out her cheeks. "I have every right to interfere."
She spoke with such unwavering entitlement, sounding not just like his wife, but a domineering partner demanding a full report of his itinerary.
Silas stared at her outstretched hand for two seconds before walking over.
He had barely sat down when the woman melted against him like she had no bones, throwing her arms around his neck. "You're injured, so can you please behave? Moving around too much will only slow your recovery."
Silas fell silent for a moment before saying, "With you around, it'll be a miracle if I recover at all."
"..." See? He's insulting me again!
