The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 338

"...I'm going to the project department."

"Still no! I can't be away from you for more than an hour, I'll miss you to death."

Silas's long fingers rubbed his temples before resting on her head, gently ruffling her hair. "Stop fussing."

Just as she got the illusion that he was coaxing her, the man casually swept his hand away and left.

Vivian stared at the doorway for a while before expressionlessly withdrawing her gaze.

She went back to eating.

Not long after, Zoe Hunt arrived.

From the moment she saw Vivian, she looked entirely on edge.

"Miss Fairchild... I'm so sorry."

Martha brought out sliced fruit, and Vivian casually popped a piece into her mouth.

Only after swallowing two bites of kiwi did she ask offhandedly, "Sorry for what?"

"I... I waited until I saw you fall asleep before going out to buy food. I even left instructions with the nurse on duty. I never expected something like that to happen. By the time I got back, Mr. Sterling had already had his people lock down the floor."

Unable to get in, she had no choice but to head back to the company.

Zoe looked at her, noticing the injuries visible near the collar of her loungewear.

"This Harrison Fowler... I won't let him off!"

Vivian frowned. "How are you going to not let him off?"

Her eyes darted as she suddenly remembered something. "Harrison got his junk sliced off. Did you hire someone to do that?"

"No." Zoe's answer was crisp. She never lied to Vivian about anything she did. "I only found out about it when I went to the hospital today. The police are still investigating, but the news hasn't leaked. The Fowler family must have suppressed it."

Harrison's reputation was already notoriously bad, having subjected many newcomers under his thumb to the casting couch. If this became public knowledge, he'd be the laughingstock of the century.

So it was entirely logical for the Fowler family to bury it. Even their hunt for the culprit had to be done in the shadows.

Seeing Vivian lost in thought, Zoe tentatively asked, "Miss Fairchild, could it be... Mr. Sterling?"

In reality, things played out exactly as Vivian predicted.

The police and the Fowler family investigated for two days straight but yielded absolutely zero results.

Richard was so furious that his rage overwhelmed him, and he passed out on the spot.

Harrison was still lying in the ICU, unconscious.

Everything dissolved into pure chaos, and even the Gifford family showed up.

Geoffrey Gifford started spouting ugly words the moment he arrived. "Beautiful women are the root of all trouble; it was definitely that woman's doing! I knew she was no good the last time I saw her, and look what happened!"

Grace's face was pale, and she remained silent.

"Grace."

Zelda Gifford glanced at the emergency room, then at her sister-in-law crying her eyes out nearby... What a complete mess.

She said grimly, "What exactly is going on between you and Silas? Why is he protecting that woman?"
