Grace looked at her mother. Being asked such a question by an elder was more than a little embarrassing. "Mom..."
Seeing her expression, Zelda immediately flared up. "What exactly is going through your head? I told you last time, and your aunt told you too. You should seize a man like Silas while you can. And what have you done?"
Rejecting his proposal was one thing, but not even trying to fix it?
"If you had just swallowed your pride early on and locked things down with him, none of this would have happened!"
Men were creatures of ego, especially someone with Silas's status.
By constantly throwing tantrums, wasn't she just pushing him away!
Grace's face turned red then white, and she whispered, "Mom, can you please stop?"
"Stop?" Zelda crossed her arms and sneered. "Fine, I won't say it. I don't care what you have to do, but you absolutely must get Silas back. Otherwise, prepare for your father to pick out a marriage alliance for you!"
Grace dug her nails fiercely into her palms, unable to speak a single word.
Silas...
He was already sick of her.
And now they wanted her to shamelessly go looking for him?
She couldn't do it.
The atmosphere in the hallway was suffocatingly oppressive. Grace felt she couldn't breathe. She stood up and headed out, whispering to the bodyguard, "If my cousin wakes up or anything else happens, call me."
"Yes, Miss."
Grace had no idea where she wanted to go; she just needed to clear her head.
She went downstairs and stood at the bustling entrance for a long time.
The wind blew against her face, making it look even paler, as if she could collapse at any second.
When Liam Ziegler pulled up, he spotted her immediately. She wasn't wearing any makeup and looked incredibly haggard.
"Grace?"
Grace looked up, forcing a weak smile.
"Liam."
Liam's eyebrows twitched slightly, as if wanting to ask something, but he ended up just lifting his chin. "Want to go for a drive?"
He didn't have feelings for Grace, but since they grew up together, there was still some affection there, like a girl next door.
"Okay."
"Not long."
Liam replied, "Strictly speaking, less than two months."
Their encounter five years ago was just a passing coincidence, not exactly knowing each other.
Grace looked out the window, her gaze filled with profound defeat. "The time Silas has known her is about the same."
"Yeah."
"Is she really... that wonderful?"
First Silas, and now him.
Two months was all it took for both of them to do so much for her.
Liam's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly. Thinking of something, a slight smirk played on his lips. "With some people, the length of time you've known them doesn't matter."
So Silas's feelings for that woman... were real?
The wind was too fierce.
Grace's eyes were blown red-rimmed. She couldn't accept this reality. Among their group of childhood friends, she was the prettiest. Her personality was a bit spoiled, sure, but she had been pampered by all these guys growing up, Silas included.
