"Enough!" Carter snapped, his face dark. "She is my wife. No matter what, you shouldn't look down on her!"
Especially not after the incredible flying skills she had just displayed right in front of him. His face still burned with the sting of it.
"What is wrong with you? Weren't you the one who looked down on her the most?" Lyle shot back in annoyance. "Didn't you say yourself that she was completely useless? That the only reason you married her was because you were a wreck after Yolande left you?"
Carter was rendered speechless. It was true. Those were the exact words he had vented to his friends during a drunken stupor!
But was Jocelyn really useless?
At the very least, he had never once had to worry about the corporate projects she managed. She had flawlessly tamed an out-of-control horse. And now, she had just flawlessly executed high-difficulty aerial stunts.
Every single revelation felt like a heavy weight pressing down on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
She was the woman he had been married to for three years, yet suddenly, she felt like a total stranger.
"Alright, let's not ruin our friendship over a woman," one of the others chimed in to keep the peace. "You should head over to the main hall, man. Yolande has been waiting for a while."
Carter nodded and started walking toward the exhibition center.
His mind was a chaotic mess, entirely consumed by the image of Jocelyn piloting that aircraft.
As he passed the Stratus Air booth, Yolande stepped up to greet him. "What's wrong? You don't look so good."
"It's nothing. Just been a little overwhelmed with company business lately," he replied.
"Come sit down and take a break," she offered.
