"What, you're scolding me for meddling, Mr. Barrett?" Jocelyn asked.
"No. You saved my life, and naturally, I should offer something in return. I'm just curious what kind of reward you'd like," Edgar replied.
At his words, the surrounding crowd stared at her with a mix of intense envy and jealousy.
"I don't need anything," she declined flatly.
"What if I insist?"
He took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
His towering frame radiated an undeniable, overwhelming presence. Jocelyn pressed her lips together, having no desire to engage in a back-and-forth with him. "If you really want to repay me, build a school for kids who need it!"
With that, she grabbed Lana's arm and walked away.
Edgar arched an eyebrow slightly. A school? The reward she wanted was certainly unexpected.
But also quite interesting.
Still held in Carter's arms, Yolande glared venomously at Jocelyn's retreating back. Pushing past her pain, she sneered, "Playing hard to get. She just wants to leave a lasting impression on him. She clearly doesn't care about you at all, Carter. If she truly cared, she would have used that favor to get him to invest in your company."
Hearing this, Carter’s eyes flickered as gears turned in his head.
——
It was past 9 PM when Carter finally returned to the villa.
He had stayed with Yolande at the hospital for a full workup. Thankfully, despite numerous scrapes and severe bruising from the fall, nothing was broken.
Because of the ordeal, it took him all evening to get back.
Seeing Jocelyn, he offered an unprompted explanation. "I didn't skip visiting your parents on purpose today. Yolande told me last minute that Edgar was at the track, and I went purely for the sake of the company."
"It doesn't matter," she replied dismissively. No matter what excuse he gave, she simply didn't care anymore.
