Jocelyn knew it was just an empty attempt to appease her.

With the divorce being finalized in barely three weeks, she didn't actually need him to accompany her to her parents' columbarium anyway.

However... he definitely owed her parents a massive apology.

"Fine," she agreed.

But when the weekend arrived, Carter bailed on her yet again.

"I'm so sorry, an urgent meeting came up at the company, so I don't have time to go pay my respects today. I promise I'll make it up to you next time," he said over the phone, his voice laced with feigned guilt.

"Okay, I understand," she replied softly, ending the call without another word.

No screaming, no crying. She didn't even have the energy to feel disappointed anymore. He had let her down far too many times.

If he could happily let his friends degrade her, why would he ever give a damn about her deceased parents?

Staring at her phone, Jocelyn scrolled through her camera roll. The number of photos she actually had with him was pitiful. Just a handful of pictures, and most of them were group shots with the staff.

Yet, deep in Carter's phone, there was an entire hidden folder stuffed with photos of him and Yolande.

She methodically deleted every single photo of him. Back when they had tied the knot, they had skipped professional wedding photos to save money. At least now it saved her the trouble of burning them.

She began packing up whatever personal belongings she still had in the house.
