"Mom, I told you, Yolande and I are just friends," Carter muttered, looking deeply embarrassed as he pulled his mother back.
"What friends?! You've always loved Yolande! Now that she's back, you belong with her! How could an orphan like Jocelyn ever compare to Stratus Air's top female pilot?" Ursula scoffed, her face contorting with undisguised disgust for Jocelyn.
Dr. Fletcher's face darkened instantly. He turned to Ursula. "It seems you'll need to find another doctor. The only reason I ever treated you was out of respect for Jocelyn's parents. If you look down on her, you have no business being in my clinic."
"What?" The Graysons stared at him in utter shock.
"But her parents have been dead for years! What kind of respect do they deserve?" Ursula blurted out thoughtlessly.
Dr. Fletcher's face turned thunderous. "Shut your mouth! How dare you speak of her parents that way?!"
Ursula instantly shrank back, too intimidated to make a sound, though the hatred in her eyes toward Jocelyn only deepened.
Carter quickly stepped forward. "Dr. Fletcher, my mother truly hopes you'll continue her treatments."
"My brother has plenty of money! Just name your price!" Jeannie demanded arrogantly.
Dr. Fletcher looked at them with pure revulsion. However, as a physician, he couldn't completely turn away a patient. "Then make an appointment through the normal channels. If you manage to get a slot, I'll see her."
With that, he signaled the hospital staff to block the Graysons from following and led Jocelyn alone into his office.
"What's going on? You're getting a divorce?" Dr. Fletcher asked with genuine concern.
"Yes," she nodded.
He didn't press for details. "Good. People like them don't deserve you. You deserve a far better man. Your parents certainly wouldn't want to see you treated like dirt. You were their absolute pride and joy."
At the mention of her parents, tears welled up in Jocelyn's eyes.
