Chapter 77

“Was it tough to keep up that act?” Edward asked Melanie emotionlessly. In fact, there was a distinct chill in his tone.
Melanie didn’t know why, but she choked and began coughing violently.
Edward watched her coldly without going up to check on her.
“I wasn’t acting. Why would you say that?”
Edward looked at her with an almost imperceptible look of disappointment. He wanted to say something but ultimately swallowed the words at the tip of his tongue and decided to ignore Melanie.
After he washed up, he got into bed and closed his eyes, pretending to sleep.
Melanie really felt guilty this time. She knew that Edward was angry and considered that perhaps she really had done something wrong.
However, if she had just accepted Felicia’s treatment of her, she would have felt like a total loser.
She ate two more cookies, and when she felt less hungry, she climbed slowly into bed.
Edward had his back to her so Melanie could not see his expression. She thought for a moment before reaching out to nudge him
“Are you angry with me?” she asked softly, sounding slightly wronged
Edward did not move an inch. He remained silent, obviously ignoring her.
Melanie could maintain her composure with other people, but it was more challenging with those she was close to
Although she wasn’t that close with Edward yet, they had a pretty good relationship, and she truly acknowledged him as her husband.
Now that Edward was refusing to look at her, she panicked slightly.
She knew that she could only have a good life in Hermiton because of Edward. If she offended him, things might be difficult for her in the future. “Can you talk to me?” She pu
pushed him again.
This time, Edward turned over and looked at her with narrowed eyes. “What do you want me to say?”
Melanie pressed her lips together. “What are you angry about?”
Edward looked at her and sighed inwardly. Melanie was more sly than he had thought. He had been afraid that she would get bullied, so he always defended her instinctively. It seemed that he hadn’t needed to do so at all.
“Do you care about why I’m angry? Edward sounded emotional
Melanie was bright. She knew why Edward was angry, so she decided to put everything aside and humble herself.
“I know that I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that behind your back, but Felicia crossed the line with me yesterday. I’m not a pushover, so I had to fight back,” Melanie said in a small voice, sounding aggrieved.
Edward had planned just to let it go, as Melanie seemed contrite. However, he thought briefly and said, “I know that what she did was wron you that I would take your side. I’m supportive of you wanting to teach her a lesson, but why did you have to do it this way?”
