“Why would I make an excuse about something like this? Why would your sister–in–law want that gold locket of yours? Let me tell you straight–she has my bank passbook. She can use the money in it however she likes. 

“If she really did like your locket, all she had to do was go and buy one for herself. Why would she need to steal yours? Besides, Melanie earns more than 300 dollars every day at the boutique. She’s perfectly capable of buying it on her own,” argued Edward. 

Everyone’s jaws dropped when they heard Edward speak. Edward had indeed earned quite a lot of money over the years. Did he really trust Melanie enough to give her his passbook? 

Didn’t that mean that Melanie was managing the finances for them? Was that possible? Why should Melanie manage the finances? Was Melanie worthy of someone like Edward? 

Sophie thought briefly. If it was true, then Melanie really had no reason to steal. After all, gold might be expensive, but it wasn’t exorbitant. 

Edward had so much money that they could buy as much as they wanted. Why would Melanie steal something that she couldn’t even wear? People would notice it quickly. 

When Sapphire heard what Edward had said, she quickly stepped forward to gloss things over. “Edward, why didn’t you tell Sophie that you were taking it? It caused such a fuss. Don’t do that again.” 

Everyone chimed in to placate them except Felicia, who had a rather strange expression. She hadn’t expected Edward to make such a sacrifice for a country bumpkin like Melanie. How could he tell such a lie? 

The realization made her feel worse. meant that he cared a lot about her. 

Sophie wasn’t very smart, so after hearing

Felicia had shot herself in the foot. The situation hadn’t turned out the way she expected. She had failed to get Melanie into trouble, and now the latter was even going to receive gifts. 

Was a woman like Melanie even worthy of receiving wedding gifts? However, there was nothing anyone could say at that point. 

Sophie took the gold locket and went straight back to her room. Yaeger appeared thoughtful. 

There was a cold look in Melanie’s eyes as she sized Felicia up. 

Since Felicia had openly declared battle, Melanie could not be too passive. She would have to find a way to punish Felicia so that she would not be too cocky. Behind the closed door of their bedroom, Melanie finally spoke. “Thank you for what you did just now. However, I really want to know who framed me. I didn’t take that locket.” 

Edward nodded and almost seemed to blurt out, “I know it wasn’t you.” 

Melanie’s chest tightened. It felt good to be trusted. “It must be someone in the family, but I don’t know who it is. It seems that I’ve stepped on some toes by being here.” Edward wasn’t an idiot. He had guessed the same thing. “Don’t worry, With me around, no one can frame you for anything.”
