Serendipity's Secret (Melanie) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Firstly, I’ve never seen your gold locket before. Secondly, I’ve never gone into your room, and I didn’t know that you had this. Lastly, please use your brain. If I stole this, I wouldn’t put it in such an obvious spot. I’d at least hide it,Melanie reasoned

She was being very logical. She had only been at the Grayson residence for a few days. How would she know that Sophie had a gold locket? The two of them were on such bad terms that Sophie would never let Melanie into her room. If Melanie didn’t know that the object existed, how could she try and steal it

Luca and Sapphire remained silent. After all, they had found the object in Melanie’s room. It was hard not to suspect her

She was the poorest in the entire Grayson family. The other children had plenty of money, so they were least likely to covet the item

If Melanie really had been the one who stole it, then it would be a complete humiliation. How could the Graysons have a daughterinlaw like that? If news of this got out, they would become a laughing stock

However, Melanie’s explanation also seemed reasonable

If Melanie wasn’t very smart, it would be understandable for her to do something like this. However, after spending so much time with her, Luca and Sapphire felt that Melanie was very intelligent and would be unlikely to make such an elementary mistake

At that moment, Edward returned from work. He couldn’t help narrowing his eyes at the gold locket when he heard about what had happened

He knew that no matter what Melanie said, she would be unable to prove her innocence within a short amount of time

Firstly, the family did not trust her. They instinctively felt that since she was from the countryside, she might be dishonest

Secondly, there were no security cameras in the house. Without direct evidence, all the proof pointed to her

Alright. Stop trying to explain! Why are you looking for excuses because you got caught? Would that gold locket have flown into your pocket by itself? It’s not like it’s an enchanted object. If what you say is true, is someone trying to frame you? There aren’t that many people in this family, and no one has a grudge against you. Why would they do something so pointless?”

Sophie’s argument was also reasonable. After all, Sapphire wouldn’t do such a silly thing. Neither would Felicia and Yaeger

Sophie was the most likely candidate, but judging from her anger, she probably hadn’t done it either. That meant that only one person was left, and that was Melanie

Felicia took Sophie’s arm. Alright, Sophie. Stop it. If Melanie says that she didn’t take it, then it probably wasn’t her.”

She may seem to be trying to placate Sophie, but she was actually pouring gasoline onto the fire. Melanie glanced at her, feeling annoyed

She exhausted herself from being outside all day, selling her wares and learning piano. She wondered why she had to take part in these mind games after getting home. She had been planning to ignore Felicia, but that manipulative bitch was still persistently stirring up trouble

Just as Melanie was about to open her mouth to retort, Edward suddenly spoke up. He clapped himself on the forehead in consternation. It’s all my fault. I took the gold locket.”

As soon as Edward spoke, everyone was dumbstruck. They all looked at him instinctively

Sophie’s expression was dazed. What did you say, Edward?”

I took the gold locket. Melanie and I got married so quickly that I didn’t get her a wedding present, I remembered that Dad and Mom gave you a gold locket, which looked pretty nice, so I wanted to show it to Melanie. If she liked it, I would buy her one tomorrow. I put it in her pocket and forgot about it, I’ve been so busy lately that my memory has gotten worse.”

Edward sounded so convincing that no one dared to refute him. After all, Edward rarely lied, and everyone thought of him as a reliable person

Sophie wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. After hearing Edward, she blurted unthinkingly, Edward, you aren’t making up excuses for her, are you?Edward snorted and frowned
