Chapter 59 

After returning to his room, Edward finally crawled into bed. “I’ve already reprimanded Sophie. Since she’s so ungrateful, you don’t need to give her anything from now on,” he said. 

He felt that Sophie was becoming increasingly unreasonable. After all, Melanie had done nothing to deserve Sophie’s behavior. He thought it was foolish for Sophie to hold a grudge against someone based on her biases. 

“Forget it. She’s still young. I’m not taking it to heart,” Melanie replied. 

Edward was grateful that Melanie was so forgiving. If she had pressed the issue, the night would have turned chaotic. 

But the more accommodating Melanie was, the more Edward felt for her. He noticed all her efforts. Someone like her deserved respect, not disdain. 

Now that she was his wife, any disrespect toward her was also a disrespect toward him. He thought that Sophie had been arrogant in the house for too long. It was time for a lesson 

“Do you want to continue? If you’re tired, we can tum in early,” Edward asked as he pointed at the hooks, 

Melanie wanted to sleep, but with only half a month left, she didn’t want to slack off. If she kept going at this pace, she wouldn’t be able to perform well, so she gritted her teeth and agreed to continue. 

At first, they sat at the table, but soon Edward decided it was too uncomfortable, especially for Melanie, who was pregnant. So, they ended up studying on the bed, propped up against the pillows. 

Before long, their heads drew closer together. When Melanie finally realized it, she looked up sharply and met Edward’s eyes. 

Edward didn’t have severe nearsightedness but sometimes wore glasses with thin gold frames. His eyes were slightly elongated, resembling the shape of Melanie’s. 

From her angle, she could see the glimmer in his eyes through the lenses. Most people had brown eyes, but Edward’s had a hint of amber, giving him a captivating 

allure. 

With his glasses and the slightly open collar of his shirt, he exuded an irresistible charm. 

Melanie couldn’t help but let her gaze drift downward. She telt dizzy when her eyes landed on Edward’s slightly parted lips. She thought that he had such a beautiful face and wondered what it would feel like to kiss him. 

Melanie couldn’t hold back and swallowed hard. This man was almost unfairly good–looking. He resembled a male livestreamer she had admired in her previous

In the stillness of the room, the sound of her swallow seemed magnified. 

Edward heard it clearly. At that moment, Melanie felt so embarrassed that her toes were digging into the ground. 

“1-1 just have a dry throat,” she stammered, scrambling for an excuse. She couldn’t exactly admit that she was drooling over him. 

Edward understood perfectly but played along. He got up to pour her a glass of water. After she drank it, she felt a bit bolder. 

She didn’t think it was that big of a deal. After all, he was her legal husband now and was easy on the eyes. Why shouldn’t she look? 

It was his honor if she wanted to steal a glance or two. 

“It’s getting late. Let’s go to sleep,” Edward said. 

This time, Melanie didn’t resist. She simply reached over and switched off the light.
