Chapter 36

When Felicia returned and heard what Melanie said, she raised an eyebrow in curiosity. “Melanie, why do you need high school textbooks?” 

Melanie took a sip of her soup before responding slowly. 

“Well, with the SAT back on, I thought it might be a good idea to do a bit of reading. I want to try taking the test next year.” 

The SAT this year was already over, so it was too late for Melanie to participate, but next year would be just right. Besides, studying would give her a plausible reason to be seen with books.

SAT on their first try would raise suspicions. 

Otherwise, a country bumplan who didn’t even finish middle school and managed to pass Sophie couldn’t help but laugh hearing Melanie say this. 

“Melanie, you don’t think college students are so common these days that 

anyone can just get accepted like that, do you?” 

Despite having received the best education since childhood, Sophie was only in the upper middle of her class now. Melanie didn’t even finish middle school but believed she could self–learn all the high school courses and go straight to college. Wasn’t this unrealistic? 

Felicia couldn’t help but smirk, too. Melanie was overly optimistic. 

While it was commendable that Melanie wanted to improve herself, she needed to be realistic about her circumstances. Did she think she was some kind of genius? Edward frowned slightly at Sophie but chose not to comment. Instead, he turned to Yaeger. “Vargar, do you still have your high school textbooks?” 

Yaegar also thought Melanie was daydreaming. Back when he was trying to get into college, he put in a lot of hard work, staying up late every night to prepare for his roams. 

The idea that Melanie could achieve that on her own seemed far–fetched. 

“Yeah, they’re all still here. I’ll pack them and hand them over to Melanie shortly,” Jaeger answered. 

Melanie looked at Yaegar and said softly, “Thank you.” 

Luca chackded lightly, trying to lighten the mood. 

“Sophie, it’s great to have ambition! We all support you. Even If you don’t pass, it’s time. Just reading the materials will be beneficial. If you want, I can help find a school to attend 

Luca couldn’t help but suggest something from the sidelines. But Melanie shook her head firmly. 

She was pregnant and planning to run a business, so she wouldn’t have enough time to attend classes. Besides, her knowledge from her previous education was more than enough to handle the SAT in the 1980s. 

“It’s fine. I can manage it with self–learning. Besides, we have plenty of high–achieving students in our family. If I have any questions, I can just approach them for help 

Edward was highly educated and spoke multiple languages. Jaeger was also a college student. Even their adopted daughter, Felicia, was a teacher in middle school. “Right. You have a point. Just ask them if there’s anything you don’t understand.” 

Sapphire was quite pleased about this. She didn’t want her daughter–in–law to be illiterate, and she thought that having the ambition to leam was a good start, regardless of whether she would excel in her studies. 

After dinner, Yaegar returned to his room and soon organized the high school textbooks for Melanie. 

Edward took the books back to their room 

After eating, Melanie didn’t slack off. She helped with the dishes before returning to their room to browse the books on the table.

Unbeknownst to her, Edward had risen from his chair and stood behind her. Leaning over her slightly, be peered at the math book in her hands. 

“How’s it looking? Can you understand it?” he asked. 

Melanie telt his warm breath against her eat, sending a tingling sensation down her spine. Instinctively, she shifted to the side. 

“So far, it’s still manageable. If I have any questions, I’ll ask you later,” she replied, keeping her tone light.
