Chapter 37 

Edward sensed Melanie’s discomfort and pulled over a chair to sit next to her. “I can help you with your studying,” he offered, thinking she was too shy to ask for 

Melanie reluctantly asked a few questions, trying to brush him off, but Edward was surprisingly patient and explained everything in great detail. 

Just then, Nellie pushed the door open and walked in, her curious gaze landing on them as their heads leaned close together. 

“Mommy, are you and Daddy going to kiss?” 

Melanie was taken aback and quickly stood up. “No. Do you wanna sleep with me tonight?” 

Edward felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him as he stood and moved to the side. 

Nellie ran to Melanie, her big eyes spackling with innocence. 

“Mommy, I’m not going to sleep with you tonight. Grandpa and Grandma said it’s not convenient for me to be here. I might disturb you and Daddy.” Melanie’s face flushed with warmth. Considering how senous Luca and Sapphire usually seemed, she couldn’t believe that they talked about such things with Nellie. 

“It’s okay. I can bug you. Do want to sleep with us tonight?” Melante hoped Nellie would stay, as it would ease the tension in the room. Nellie wanted to sleep with Melanie so badly, but she didn’t want to interfere with the couple’s bonding, so she shook her head and declined. 

She stayed in her parent’s room for a while. It wasn’t until Nellie got sleepy that Sapphire came over to take her away. 

“It’s getting late. Time to rest, sweetie.” 

After washing up, Melanie tumed off the light and got ready for bed. 

Edward had intended to discuss Gabrielle’s incident but saw that Melanie had already turned her back and fallen asleep. so, he decided to drop it. 

The following day, Melanie and Sapphire took Nellie to school. After completing the enrollment procedures, it was time for Nellie to settle in. After all, the young girl was of school age 

Even though it was her first day, Nellle was surprisingly brave. She happily walled into the classroom without a hint of tears. 

As for Melanie, she headed to her driving school to practice for her driving test. After practicing in the morning, she went to check on the store in the afternoon. 

The renovation was progressing quickly. The workers were diligent and hardworking, and it seemed they would finish up in another couple of days. 

With the store renovation complete, all that was left was to secure inventory. Melanie didn’t plan to source her goods locally, as the styles here were quite out of trend. 

However, in the neighboring city, she could source Y2K–style clothing that, while slightly more pricey, featured much more trendy designs. 

she intended to make a trip there tomorrow, but the thought made her head spin. She knew the Grayson family would disapprove of her going to another city alone for supplies. She would probably need Edward to mediate. 

As expected, when she brought it up, the Grayson family expressed their reservations, thinking she was overextending herself 

“Mom, Dad, she’s not a child anymore. She has her own plans. 1’ll take care of it. Just leave it to me. I’ll find someone to accompany her,” Edward interjected. With that, Luca and Sapphire didn’t dare to push further. 

However, the couple couldn’t help but feel uneasy about Melanie. They thought she should stay home and focus on her pregnancy, especially since Xavier seemed to value her so much. How could she not realize the implications? 

Wasn’t it just starting a small business? She hadn’t ventured far outside the village before back then. Was she really confident enough to pull this off?
