Chapter 33
After a quick lunch, Melanie took Nellie on the bus. The security team at Edward’s office naturally wouldn’t let Melanie through without checking her credentials. After she registered her information, they finally opened the door for her.
Curiosity buzzed through the group when they leamed that Melanie was Edward’s new wife, and they couldn’t help but steal a few glances at her.
Once Melanie walked away, the whispers began.
“Mr. Grayson’s wife is gorgeous. She looks like a movie star! We’re seeing something new today.”
“Tell me about it! But who’s that little girl with her?”
“Not sure. She must be a relative’s child.”
The men exchanged a few more comments before moving on to other topics.
Edward had returned from abroad and joined the PR department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since marrying him, Melanie had learned a bit about his work. She had already asked the security team where his office was located.
Nellie looked around with wide eyes, taking in the surroundings. Melanie felt an undeniable pride that her husband worked here.
Just then, Gabrielle walked out of the office and spotted Melanie and Nellie. At first, she thought she was imagining things, but as the realization hit, her expression darkened.
she had always suspected that Melanie was no good. How dare she show up with her daughter so soon after their wedding, flaunting her new status? Was she trying to assert her daim?
It was embarrassing for someone like Edward to have a wife like this.
Gabrielle struggled to contain ber anger. She didn’t want anyone to know that Edward had married someone like Melanie, and she was especially keen to hide the fact that he was now a father to another man’s child.
While Edward didn’t seem to came, she felt it was shameful
After Melanie finally located Edward’s office, she hadn’t even made it to the entrance when she was stopped in her tracks.
Looking up, she saw it was none other than Gabrielle. Since Gabrielle worked as a translator, it wasn’t surprising to run into her here. Melanie stayed silent, for Gabrielle to speak first.
Gabrielle’s gaze was filled with disdain as she assessed her.
“What are you doing here? Mr. Grayson is busy, and he doesn’t have time for you. You should take your child and leave before someone sees you.”
waiting.
Melanie raised an eyebrow. If people didn’t know better, they might think she was a criminal based on what Gabrielle was saying, Why should she rare if someone saw her?
Edward was her husband. What was wrong with her visiting him at work?
“I’m here to see my husband. Is that so scandalous? Ms. Graham, your comments are quite puzzling,” she replied, refusing to back down. Why should she be concerned about Gabrielle’s opinion?
Gabrielle gritted her teeth, her tone turning sharp. “Mr. Grayson is well respected in his department. If people find out who you are, they’ll look down on him. You wouldn’t want that for him, would you?”
Iterimplication was clear. She believed Melanie was beneath Edward and would only embarrass him.
Melanie couldn’t help but laugh
“I didn’t realize you were so concerned about others, Ms. Graham. It was Edward who asked me to come. He didn’t feel ashamed of me. You seem awfully worried for someone who has no right to be.”
Melanie felt a surge of anger within her, she didn’t want to engage with Gabrielle, but she wouldn’t let her walk all over her.
“I think you need to understand your place. Mr. Grayson didn’t marry you because he likes you. It was out of necessity.
“As a woman, you should have some self–awareness. Staying out of his way would be the biggest help you could offer him. Let me give you some advice. Don’t ever come to his workplace again. You could jeopardize his future!”
Melanie’s expression hardened. Was Gabrielle really trying to comer her? Did everyone think she was just some good–for–nothing?
“I don’t have time to argue with you. Step aside.
