Chapter 32
Melanie felt a mix of emotions. If Edward stayed at home, the Grayson family wouldn’t dare to push her around. It was better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
But she would feel more at ease at night if he didn’t come home. Sharing a bed with him felt awloward. There was always a strange tension in the air.
While the couple whispered to each other in their room, Sophie and Felicia were busy complaining
“I’m so sick of her! Felicia, what can we do to get rid of her?” Sophie’s frustration was evident, and her expression was one of annoyance.
Hearing what Sophie said, Felicia couldn’t help but feel anxious.
She felt a knot form in her stomach at Sophie’s words. Melanie was still in the Grayson residence only because of her pregnancy. If something happened to the bables, she would lose all value to them.
Nellie was old enough to be raised without Melanie, who was anyway only her stepmother. Sapphire could manage just fine.
Felicia had thought about causing an accident for Melanie to make her lose the babies, but she knew that even as an adopted daughter of the Grayson family, she wouldn’t be spared from the consequences.
“She’s married to Edward now, Sophie. I think you should just bear with it for a while,” Felicia sighed, pretending to be resigned.
Sophie clenched her fists, her frustration bubbling over. “Ever since she showed up, Edward has forgotten everything about me. He practically worshipped her! Is be out of his mind to agree to such a ridiculous arrangement?”
Seeing Sophie getting more worked up, Felicia felt the need to steer the conversation back on track
“Honestly, Edward isn’t drawn to her. All he cares about are the babies she’s carrying. Mom and Dad feel the same way
“Who would give her a second glance if it weren’t for Edward’s backing? Let’s be real–If it weren’t for those babies, she wouldn’t hold any status in our family.” As Felicia spoke, she carefully watched Sophie’s reaction. She had laid the points out clearly; surely, sophie would catch on
But it seemed she had overestimated Sophie’s insight. Instead of realizing the truth, Sophie simply sighed.
“You’re right. The babies give her leverage, and there’s not much we can do about that.”
to the idea
Despite being a pampered young lady who disliked Melanie, Sophie wasn’t inherently malicious. She didn’t entertain thoughts of harming the babies, so never crossed her mind.
Felicia felt exasperated. She wished she could be more direct without pushing Sophie too far. Watching her act oblivious was frustrating. Finally, Sophie, feeling dejected, retreated to her room.
Felicia couldn’t help but curse her for being so clueless. With someone like her, using her as a pawn for any scheme was impossible.
Melanie was living too comfortably, and Felicia vowed to find a way!

The next morning, Edward left for work early, and as Melanie tidied up the bed, she discovered some money tucked under her mattress, along with a note. It said that the money was for her to use for her shop.
Melanie felt a warm flutter in her chest. Edward was incredibly thoughtful, leaving her money discreetly so she wouldn’t feel embarrassed asking for it
She slipped the money into her bag and set out with Nellie.
Herplan was to give the shop a quick renovation before stocking it. With Nellie being so young, having someone to constantly watch over her would be challenging, so Melanie decided to take her along when she could.
She hired some workers at the market, showing them her blueprints and instructing them to follow her designs for the renovations. She then made payments to them for their work
