Chapter 29 

At this point, Anna willingly handed the car keys to Melanie. Previously, she had looked down on Melanie, thinking it was a waste that Edward treated her so well. 

But now she recognized that Melanie had a certain quality about her, was emotionally intelligent, and knew how to handle situations. She was much better than those in the younger generations in the family. 

After all, even if someone was perceived as foolish, marrying into the Grayson family would inevitably sharpen their wits. 

Anna realized she shouldn’t view people through a biased lens. Just because Melanie came from a rural background didn’t mean she was inferior. 

“I’ll have Edward arrange for you to take your driving test. Once you get your license, you can start driving. The car will be of no use just sitting here. You might as well take it.” Anna suggested. 

Melanie could tell that Anna’s attitude toward her had softened significantly, and a genuine smile spread across ber face. “Thank you, 

Anna.” 

After their conversation, they said their goodbyes. Since Edward had driven them, Anna arranged for someone to take the car for them later. Melanie settled into the passenger seat and focused straight ahead, avoiding any distractions. Edward pressed his lips together and broke the silence, “I didn’t expect your cooking to be so good.” 

Melanie raised an eyebrow, trasingly asking, “You’re not going to tell your parents, are you? 

Edward blinked, wondering if she was joking. After all, he had given her quite a few tips during her earlier cooking attempts.

Seeing him at a loss for words, Melanie couldn’t help but smile, “It wouldn’t matter if you did. After all, you’re the one who suggested I us cook, I wasn’t the one to be blamed for the outcome of my cooking,” she said with a playful laugh. 

Edward felt a headache coming on. It seemed like he had stepped right into a trap. Not laowing how to respond, he quickly changed the subject. “By the way, what was going on with the Hawke family?” 

His curiosity had been piqued earlier. He wanted to know what Christine had written in her letters 

Melanie didn’t hold back and recounted what had happened in the past. 

“They’re not good people. Even if they didn’t want to help, they could have at least replied to the letter. It just shows how they despise us.” 

Ldward nodded in agreement. He understood her frustra 

Meanwhile, Cody and Janet, who were the topic of their conversation, were hurling insults at Melanie. 

Is Melanie out of her mind? How dare she act like that? Does her family know what she’s doing? 

“It’s ridiculous! How could a countryside bumpkin like her marry Edward? This doesn’t make any sense. 

“Ger your mother to send a telegram to Smith Village right away and find out what’s going on!”
