Chapter 28 

Now that Edward and Melanie were married, their fortunes were intertwined. His success was tied to hers. He wanted the people around them to drop any biases they might have against her. 

While at the Grayson residence, Melanie had deliberately made the food less appealing to avoid having to cook But things were different at Anna’s place. Since she only came by occasionally, there was no harm in putting on a good show. 

Putting everything else aside, Melanie found that Anna was actually quite to her liking 

So when Anna went to prepare dinner, Melanie didn’t sit idly by. Instead, she jumped in to help and showcased her skills by whipping up two or three of her signature dishes. 

During the meal, Anna pointed at the dishes Melanie had cooked. “I never knew Melanie was such a good cook! Everyone, you’ve got to try it!” 

When it was time to eat, Peyton and Sean Jacobson, Anna’s husband and son, respectively, came home. They were surprised to hear Melanie had cooked. Even Edward couldn’t help but steal glances at her. The dishes Melanie had prepared weren’t overly complicated. She had made orange chicken, grilled salmon, and some potato salad, all of which were her favorites. 

As soon as they dug in, their eyes lit up. The flavors were outstanding, comparable to what one would find at a local restaurant. The grilled salmon was particularly sweet and went perfectly with the mashed potatoes 

Sean loved the salmon and even went back for seconds and thirds. Edward had expected Melanie to be a decent cook, but he was surprised by how delicious the food was. He found himself picking up his cutlery faster to grab more. 

“Mom, this is way better than your coolding! Melanie, can you come over and make me food more often?” Sean exclaimed. At only seven or eight years old, his Innocence shone through. 

Melanie smiled at him. “Of course! I’d be happy to come over and cook for you whenever I can.” 

Edward listened quietly, thinking Melanie might be even smarter than he had realized. If she kept this up, it wouldn’t be long before everyone changed their opinion of her. He felt a wave of relief. 

While he was relieved, it didn’t matter whether Melanie was smart or not. The fact remained that he w 

was committed to being with her. 

After all, they were already married, and Melanie was pregnant. He had a responsibility as a man to support her fully. 

it appeared Melanie wasn’t the burden he had initially thought–she might even surprise him. 

Sean was usually picky about his food and didn’t eat well, so Anna had always worried about him. Seeing him devour two big servings of mashed potatoes that evening filled her with happiness. 

She considered asking Melanie how she had made that grilled salmon so she could prepare it for Sean later, but she hesitated. 

After all, she had looked down on Melanie at first, and now asldng for her help felt awkward. 

As she prepared to leave after they finished their meal, Melanie suddenly pulled out a notepad and handed it to Anna 

“Anna, I noticed Sean really liked that salmon, I wrote down the recipe for you on this paper. You can refer to it when you make it later.” 

Anna was taken aback, thinking how incredible it was that Melanie seemed to low exactly what she needed. 

“Thank you! That’s really thoughtful of you.” 

With that, Anna led them out of the house and handed Melanie the keys to the used car.
