Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 313

Chapter 313

Third Person’s POV

On the way back, Trista gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, completely exhausted.

Her chest felt heavy and suffocating.

During a checkup last month, the pack doctor had found an abnormal lump near her chest.

If she stayed emotionally distressed for too long, the backlash could end up wrecking her sense of smell and self-healing

abilities.

She’d never had symptoms like this before getting mated.

As she glanced at the mating bond severance papers sitting on the passenger seat, a wave of helplessness washed over her again.

She’d brought them up to the hotel earlier, only to take them right back down.

For the past three years, the urge to reject Wilmot and sever their mating bond once and for all had crossed her mind countless times. But every time she remembered how he’d braved the scorching fire to carry her out despite the agonizing pain of having his skin burned, she backed down.

She feared that if she actually handed him the papers, he’d agree without hesitation, leaving her no chance to change her mind.

So she’d kept the papers with her for quite some time

Once the scandal blew over, everything went back to normal

One morning, Trista passed by the small conference room while a meeting was in progress inside.

“Recalculate again? Wilmot, I’ve done this six times already”

“Must be nice being Trista- she doesn’t have to pull together any proposals. All she has to do is sign her name at the negotiating table.”

“Jealous? But we have only ourselves to blame. We’re just not as good as her at pulling strings, currying favors, or putting up with things. Did you see the news from two nights ago? She cleaned up Wilmot’s mess again.”

As soon as the two women finished talking, a guy chimed in, “Wilmot, I heard that when Trista went to the hotel that night, you and Natalie were making out? Did Trista cry?”

Wilmot chuckled. “Where’d you pick up that rumor? Pretty juicy.”

That night, he’d been having dinner with Natalie when a waiter accidentally spilled juice all over them. They’d only gone upstairs to change their clothes, nothing more.

But Wilmot didn’t bother explaining. He didn’t care what other people said, and he cared even less about whether Trista was

upset.

“Wilmot, Trista doesn’t deserve you at all. Why don’t you two sever the bond already and give someone else a chance?”

Outside the door, Trista listened as Wilmot discussed his own cheating like a total bystander.

She stared at him without blinking, her face devoid of emotion.

The project Wilmot was working on right now was managed by his tight inner circle.

He’d never let her get involved in projects like this.

Ever since they’d mated, he’d kept her completely locked out of his personal life, and their relationship was even worse than before

Just ilien, Faston Garcia slouched lazily in his chair and glanced at Wilmot. “Will, don’t listen to their BS. Trista helps you run the company and keeps the pack in check.

“You’re out here living it up, and instead of calling you out, she cleans up your messes. Who else could do all that?

“With such a perfect Luna, what more can you ask for?”

Someone in the room clearly disagreed.

“Wilmot, I could do a way better job than her. If you actually sever the bond, hit me up- the pack resources I bring to the table blow Trista’s out of the water,” Willow Reed spoke up.

“Willow, you’re not next in line anyway. Natalie’s back, remember?” someone chimed in.

Wilmot smirked. “Willow, tell your grandpa to get those pack resources ready then.”

The conference room erupted in laughter. Trista quietly turned around and walked back to her office.

Given her family background, Wilmot was out of her league indeed.

Her mom passed away from an illness when she was eight, and her dad died in the line of duty a few years ago.

Her grandfather had been the chauffeur for Wilmot’s grandfather, Harley Simmons.

So she and Wilmot had known each other since they were kids.

After she became Wilmot’s mate, Harley arranged for her to work as VP at the Simmons Group and assist Wilmot with his work.

That was what they called it, anyway.

In reality, he’d wanted her to keep an eye on Wilmot. Unfortunately, she failed at that.

Trista took the mating bond severance papers out of her drawer and stared at them for quite some time.

She should have stopped lying to herself a long time ago. Deep down, she’d always known that she was never going to win Wilmot’s heart.

Suddenly, she didn’t feel like holding on anymore.

She didn’t want to become the obstacle in his pursuit of happiness.

So, after Wilmot’s meeting ended, she went to his office.

When she reached the door, Wilmot happened to open it from the inside.

Seeing her, he looked slightly surprised. “You need something?”
